Menu display application NAME instead of application COMMENT & CATEGORY
Posted by: geeknokc1 - 09-04-2021, 07:50 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (1)

I found it once but I am having trouble finding it again. Where do I go to change how application launchers are displayed in the menu where they display the name and not the category + comment?

Installing Linux Lite on same drive as Windows
Posted by: freddy888 - 09-04-2021, 03:37 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (14)

I am trying to install Linux Lite to the free space of my 850 EVO SSD inside a Dell Latitude D830, while keeping Windows 10 for now. When i try to do this the Linux Lite installer labels the free space as "unusable". When i select the free space i am given no options other than Revert, which does nothing. Can i install Linux Lite on the free space?

  Softmaker FreeOffice
Posted by: LLUser - 09-03-2021, 10:50 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

Hi all,
Does anyone have some experience in using Softmaker FreeOffice (SFO) on LL?
I would prefere to use SFO instead of LibreOffice as it handle better the formatting of Microsoft Office documents.

Attempting to start Clamtk upon boot.
Posted by: order99 - 09-03-2021, 09:53 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (8)

Okay, i'll admit to being brand new to Linux Lite...but I downloaded 6.5 a few days ago to replace the OS in my HP All-in-one (terabyte drive, 4G Ram, plenty of room for this distro and then some) and so far it's been smooth sailing.

However, I really don't like surfing the Internet without protection-and while Firefox with full 'don't track me' commands, 'dump cookies after every session' commands and Ghostery add-on affords some protection, i'd really like a decent anti-virus. I downloaded Bleachbit for a decent utility and i've got Clamtk as well-but both of them seem to be manually-triggered and therefore either unable to continuously scan while surfing.

Is there a way to set either to both start upon Boot and to set to continuous scan? The Online Manual has a vague reference to the Start Menu but not enough detail for my need on this. I'm sure that I have the resources to spare. Failing that, does Linux have an 'Active Scan' anti-virus to download?  Note: I am inexperienced with Command line but not terrified of it, so if you have a Command-line solution I can Cut-n-Paste with the best of them... :022:

Any help and advice would be appreciated-I understand that there is a certain 'security in obscurity' with Linux, but i'm not relying on it. Other than this tiny bit of paranoid anxiety i'm having a blast with this system so far...i'm a casual user who has stuck with GUI-heavy Linux OS so due to an honest lack of time-my first OS was Fedora Core 1 (I used one YUM command to load APT, one APT command to load Synaptic and GUI'ed  my way from there  :007: ) I have run Clam weekly on every Linux OS i've ever used and been very lucky so far-but i'd rather be impregnable, yes?

  Love the website BTW.

Grouping Panel Task Symbols like Windows 10 / MacOS ?
Posted by: Hannes222222 - 09-03-2021, 06:40 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - No Replies

Hello!

Right now my task bar of my Linux Lite 5.2 System looks like this:

Left are the starters ... and when I open a program, a window button appears on the right.

So, I do have most Icons double ... one as starter ... one as window button.

Is there a costumization to have the starter icons be the window buttons at the same time?
Like in Windows 10 or MacOS?

Or do i need to install another desktop for that?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Greetings from Germany!

Hannes

Posted by: p Tiwari - 09-03-2021, 11:24 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (3)

I installed LL today But after few hours , while booting screen goes black , no cursor showing but only black screen.
This also happened previously when I installed Linux Mint and i can't fixed it back then .
I tried changing 'quiet splash' to 'nomodeset' in grub but then I can't able to change my brightness in LL.
I guess it is some problem with my amd radeon vega graphic card.
Please help me I'm stuck :012:
(sorry for my poor english)

  Upgraded To 5.6
Posted by: lc6529 - 09-01-2021, 11:12 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

Just did the upgrade to 5.6, it upgraded without any issues (as each upgrade has) to the point the upgrade process was boring as I'm used to the challenges when I upgrade Windows.

In my nearly 40 years of experience working with PCs (started in mid 80's with the original IBM PC and Dos 1.0) I've never had upgrade experiences work as smoothly as they do with Linux Lite.

Well done!

Future Challenge - Make an upgrade path to the 6.0 version from 5.X without having to completely re-install.
