  Lite Upgrade?
Posted by: joemartin - 04-01-2020, 03:38 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Newbie question. Is it always possible to use the Lite Upgrade tool to upgrade to a new LL release?

I noticed during install that it stated, "Lite Upgrade can upgrade within the Series".  Not sure if that means Lite Upgrade is safe to use as log as you don't skip a release in the sequential order or if it means that sometimes you need to do a fresh install?

Thanks.

  Upcoming Version 5.0
Posted by: Narender Rao - 03-31-2020, 05:29 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

Hello Sir!I have been using LL from 3.0 onwards, I have upgraded to 3.8 and for the recent 4.8 version, I had to use entire disc to install LL and later had to make another partition on the hdd ! Is this there to happen again for LL 5.0? Or is there any way to upgrade from 4.8 to 5.0 without any problem or messing all again!! I request the developers to look into this aspect and feature of upgrading to next level version smoothly.Thank you all !!!

  ISO Initial Boot 4.8
Posted by: DamFam - 03-30-2020, 08:45 PM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (1)

I downloaded and ISO USB prepared v 4.8. Following Grub menu choice, the next screen requires a USER and PASSWORD with an OPTION on top which is worthless. No instructions. I have spent 2 days searching for guidance with every word I can conjure, no results. How are we expected to boot and try or install Linux Lite if it requires user and password on booting the live ISO..?? Thank you.

Install LL 4.8 over old LL 3.8
Posted by: JohnD - 03-30-2020, 07:13 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I've an old Version of LL installed, but ca no longer enter it. I've discussed this issue her and tried to solve it, without success. I'm not interested to invest a single minute to solve this, because all simple hints do not work.

I've documented which partitions were used by the old existing LL 3.8 installation.

Is it possible to install LL 4.8 in the same partitions for updating the system without serious problems?

Why does Linux Lite Look Like This?
Posted by: kevin.pomerantz - 03-29-2020, 11:26 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

Hello everyone, I just installed Linux Lite OS for the first time on my old Compaq Presario CQ5210F that had Windows 7 installed. I previously installed Linux Mint 19.3 Xfce but had some problems with the Nvidia Geforce 6150SE nForce 430 video card crashing occasionally. I figured Linux Lite OS might be a better distribution for this old computer given that the Nvidia driver 304.137 appears to be unsupported now. Anyway, I boot up Linux Lite for the first time and this is the desktop environment. I'm new to Linux and I'm wondering why the desktop looks like an old Windows 95 lookalike. Can someone give me an explanation for this? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, first try and first problem
Posted by: gazadonf - 03-29-2020, 12:46 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (1)

Hi every one from France.

I'm new in linux installation and i choose Linux Lite 4.8 to reactivate an old computer of mine for my daughter.

It's not as fast as i expected, but with my poor computer, it does the job even better than $soft, and it's a ready to use system very simple to activate.

Very simple until i try to create a standard user for my daugther.

My first problem is with the graphical interface Lite User Manager.
When i try to add a new user, nothing append.
The new user doesn't appear in the list of existing users.

When i go to the terminal Xfce, i can see that the directory corresponding to the user is created, but it contains only Templates directory.

If i compare with my user directory, it contains several directories as
Bureau  Documents  Modèles  Public          Vidéos
Desktop  Images    Musique  Téléchargements

Did i notice that i'm french???  Wink

Even if i restart the computer, it doesn't change anything.

After that i try create a new user with command line, with a better result because i can see it in the list, check right to log in without password, but when i restart and try to log in with this user, i'm stuck with a login loop.

I try this solution
How to Fix the Ubuntu Login Loop

but when i check the permissions of Xauthority, it tell's me that such a file or directory doesn't exist.

Did i miss anything in creation of a new user?
Is there anystep i have to do to check creation?

I'm not very familiar with linux ecosystem, so if you have some advice, it'll be kind of you to include command line or detailed manipulation.

Thank's for your help.

And sorry for my poor english...  :Smile

Excuse the title, I'm trying to avoid for once SEO using our title to get peoples hopes up.

Here's some 5.0 work to date. Of note:

Lite Widget - now shows the status of the Firewall (firewalld) This is one of those important, piece of mind security features.
Lite Welcome - fixed those pesky shortcuts that never quite worked, now they ALL work.
Paint - We now have a simple Paint app included by default. Why? Because we're chasing Windows folk and that's what they have too.
Mousepad - Is the new text Editor.
Terminal - moderate transparency.
Whisker Menu - some new features there.
Lite Welcome & Lite User Manager have both been ported to Python 3 and GTK3.

There's a whole lot of that's new, but we're saving all the good stuff for the Beta/RC release.

Hope you like the video below (no sound):

helloo all, i'm from Indonesia.

Linux Lite is the operating system that first made me fall in love with linux, I used to try ubuntu, but I haven't fallen in love yet, but with linux lite which has a look like Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, it made me fall in love even making an ebook. If you are pleased, please read it at the following web address.

thank you, hopefully Linux Lite becomes an operating system that can help users in completing their work.

share myexperiences when installing on a Travelmate 6291 ram 2GB laptop getting a problem at the first restart:

I recommend that when installing the keyboard used in English (US). After the install is complete, the keyboard sometimes likes to be weird, the FN key activates by itself, this is because when booting at the start of Linux Lite it automatically activates the numlock function. To overcome this, when windows linux lite is normal, turn off the numlock function. This experience happened to travelmate 6291 laptop (shutting down by pressing the FN + F11 key.

  Turn CAPSLOCK off with shift?
Posted by: Crimson_Raven - 03-28-2020, 07:36 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hey, I have a quick question.
Over the regrettable years of using Windows, I grew accustomed to turning caps lock off by using shift - that way accidental clicks on it didn't matter, because I began sentences with a capital letter (therefore, using shift), turning caps off.
I don't seem to be able to find such a functionality in linux. Is there a way to enable it somehow?
I took a look around the keyboard settings, but couldn't find anything, is there a config file or terminal command perhaps for it, or even a third party application that enables this functionality?
