I clicked Menu / Install Updates and waited a few minutes.  I then got an error message saying, "Your computer is not connected to the internet - Linux Lite cannot check for updates.  Please check your internet connection and try again."

I was on the internet, because I had Facebook open in a browser window.  And I can get to any website I try.

As a workaround, I checked for updates via the terminal window.  It appears that I was successful, but I'm not sure.  Below is what was in my terminal window.  Does it look like I was successful?  And did the updates install, or just download?

Hi All

I just upgraded to Linux Lite v3.8, and I can't get Wireshark to install. 

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libwireshark8 : Depends: libsmi2ldbl (>= 0.4.5+dfsg0) but it is not installed

I also ran [tt]apt-get -f install[/tt] but it didn't help

I've included the [tt]apt-get install[/tt] &  [tt]apt-get -f install[/tt] run in case it provides any useful information.

Any suggestions/assistance much appreciated.

Now I'm trying to download My Weather Indicator in the terminal, using the following instructions:

so I will try to make this as short as possible and concise.  This computer (Toshiba Satellite L750 was donated to me which was running Win 10). I wiped it using DBAN then loaded LL 3.4  All seemed to be running fine then it starting acting really weird just as I was placing it with a youth.  We shut it down then re-booted and got the following screen message:

I tried simply clicking on the the top line and this is the message I got (No, it did not go into LL 3.4):

I then decided to re-install LL 3.4 and did so.  I loaded it and seemed to be working fine including WiFi.  I made a system report and added it to the LL hardware database (Done 02/17/2018 07:05).

I then shut it down, pulled it up again and selected to update it.  It got a list of updates, I then clicked install and at the end I got a message saying that it could not install the updates. I shut it down and then this morning thought I would give the updates a try again and this time IF it didn't update look at log and try to save it to ask.  No go.  What I got was initially the solitary feather logo then it showed the SECOND screen message - the one starting with BusyBox... (as stated above, the Windows OS has been completely wiped).

BTW I did start a memtest 86+ at the beginning of all this as I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the computer (hard drive..?) and while it only ran for about 2 hours and was working on the 3rd pass I then exited out of the memtest despite having read that 5-8 passes minimum is recommended (No errors picked up) to then reload LL3.4

I have looked up the busy box message and it says to do the following:
type exit after the (initramfs) then the use the following:
(initramfs) fsck /dev/sda1

I am willing to try the above - however:
1) reading further down this article in askubuntu.com it seems that it isn't always sda1 that is used but sometimes sda5 or sda8...How does one know or decide what to enter.
2) I couldn't tell from the article (maybe because this is over my head) whether doing the above is a permanent fix or whether I'd have to do the above each time I booted up..?

Any advice or should I simply put this laptop on the shelf for "parts"?

Hello, today i went and bought a new Epson XP-245 printer and have connected it to the computer via a USB cable but can`t print anything. The copy works perfectly, just not print and scan.

Any help would be grateful.

hi, I'm new here as in the linux world. I installed latest version of Lite (32bits) from an usb, on my dell inspiron 1012 netbook(old and slow netbook that I think could revive with this OS)  without any problem.  After the instalation finished I quit the usb and Lite started as expected even with the wifi controller installed fine (that could have bring problems as I read on different website I checked before installing the OS). Then I applied the latest update just fine and when the update processes finish Lite ask me to restart the netbook. I did that and after that the OS stays stack in the Lite log and I couldn't log into the system again.  I do not see any message, when restarting no matter which option choose from the lite boot menu,  the OS does not start as expected.  How can I check what is falling in order to search for a proper solution?  Which keys should I press or menus should I choose  to see a log or some message?

NumLock is on default, so I have to turn it off whenever I log in to the computer. How can I change that?

Id like to try Clementine or something similar but am having trouble installing it. The downloads page appears to have versions for a whole lot of Ubuntu flavors, and I tried one of them (the Willy one), to no avail. I also tried downloading the source and following some instructions for the terminal, but when the terminal asks for my password, I'm unable to type anything in.

Well I’ve learned to ask before getting into trouble!

I wish to put LL 3.4 on an old Dell D800 whose specs are: Intel® Pentium® M processor 2.00 GHz, 799 MHz, RAM 768 MB, HD of 40 GB

This time I did fire it up and can see that Win XP loaded fine, WiFi works and connects. I then did a temporary boot order change when I turned it on again and had my LL 3.4 USB in the slot. It brought up the initial screen where you can choose to run or install etc. I clicked on run as I wanted to make sure it would work and this is the message I got:

WARNING: PAE disabled. Use parameter ‘forcepae’ to enable at your own risk! This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU: pae
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU

I’m not sure what to do, if I can do anything. I’d love to run Linux Lite on this machine. Or at least some type of Linux OS (Puppy Linux..? But likely won’t I run into the same thing?

I was wondering the other day how security works with LL and the privileges/access to computer that the password provides.


LL has 1 password which is used to login with - the same password is used as a root/admin password. How does that work? Surely having the same password for both means that the distro is therefore vulnerable as permission is given, following logon, for anything out there to make changes to your computer ... ???

Comparing with two other distros that I have been using:

PCLinuxOS has 3 passwords: a Security password (for allowing changes to grub); a Root or Admin password, and a separate Login password.

Manjaro has 2 passwords: one for Login and one for Root/Admin privileges.
