I learned something new yesterday . Broke out my Dell XT2 and dist-upgraded my old install.

The default kernel in LL 3.4 is the 4.4 family. Just for the heck of it, I installed a much later kernel (4.11.0) and it's my default boot kernel. It works fine so far.


Issue comes with updates - I'm seeing updates to the 4.4 kernel family, but nothing for the 4.11 family (and there have been updates to it, per the news page at lwn.net). Also, the kernel removal tool only sees the kernels that LL knows about. Removing the 4.11 kernel is not provided as an option.


Can this be fixed? If I wanted to remove the 4.11 kernel and go back to the 4.4 series as default, what needs to be done?

I was the one who suggested the installation of the MintUpdate system from Linux Mint into LinuxLite. As far as I'm concerned it works great. It's nice to see the icon in the panel and to know immediately whether or not I have updates.


A suggested tweak or two to the tool:
1) When it does the log of updates being applied, it closes that window immediately upon finishing (so you don't get to see the results of the update. MintUpdate has an option to close the window, if that option is selected (that should be the default, good enough for most people). If it's unchecked, then it remains open and a 'Close' button is made available. This way one can review the changes applied and the messages from the upgrade process before closing the process.
2) Please add a 'maximize' button on the top of window tool bar so it can be resized to a full screen (hard to see the scrolling text in such a small window.

My name is Lucas, I live in Argentina and I'm new to Linux.

Thought I'd make a quick intro. I have been using Linux for about 14 or 15 years. Most recently have been using Mint 18. For some reason I have experienced slow downs with my Mint installs over the last year or so. The kind of slow downs in performance you expect out of a Windows install. Never could figure out what it was so decided to jump ship and find a distro that was lighter weight and less resource hungry. I had narrowed it down to Lite and WattOS. I had almost decided to go with WattOS, but then ran into problems setting up my wireless printer and also problems connecting to my other computers with shared directories. Couldn't get around it so have now decided to get Lite installed on all my rigs, desktop and laptops. Running the Lite Live DVD was already faster than Mint had been performing so I'm really looking forward to getting it installed and tweaked.

As for me personally, I spent over 30 years in the data processing/computer industry in some capacity. I've gotten a little older and I just no longer have any desire to spend all the time trouble shooting an install that isn't quite working right, or spending all nighters getting an app to run on whatever OS/distro I have. I've reached a point where all I want to do is fire the PC up, open whatever app I need, do the work (or play), and be done with it. Lite really seems to be that type of distro.

I might have a question or two at some point in the future. Hopefully I won't bug too many folks with too many issues.

Just installed latest printer driver pack. HP do a good job, it looks just like Winblows Version.
All the same tools & diagnostics.

Note: For some reason this version(never seen before) tells me another "Package Manager" is running, it wasn't, so I selected ignore.
If you are using a Wireless Printer, pay attention to the very last step, and note what you need to run for final set-up.

  I just checked the WAP(or WAP2, I'll use WAP for both) version of LL forum and it works great, but to some extent. When I tried logging in to forum via WAP it gave an error- [tt]Your session timed out while posting. Please go back and try again.[/tt] And, landed on url- https://mityer.khdlhfjijfrupr.tk/forums/login2/?wap2 . Just as an experiment I tried logging in via WAP when I was already logged in(the usual way), it accepted!
  I understand that in today's day and age, there are not much people using WAP, but I think it should not be overlooked. For that we may be losing a valuable member.
