Running LL2.8 32bit 3 GB RAM (3 x 1 GB) Standard config; LAN connected. Intel Dual core 6300 CPU 1.86 GHz
CPU capable of 64 bit - Maximum RAM ( Bios) 3 x 2GB. Video card shares existing memory
Standard office use - Not gamer. Some video viewing. SKYPE
QUESTION
With Ubuntu threatening 32 bit demise what are my most cost effective options?
a) changing to 64 bit , utilising existing RAM - will I run into low memory availability issues.
b) Bite the bullet and buy 3 x 2gb sticks RAM (Ebay)
Option b) is virtually the same cost as the residual value of the HP DC7700p
TIA.

My wife has migrated from a Chromebook, and liked the feature they had of the function keys having by default the functions such as volume up and down, screen contrast up and down, etc. rather than having to hit the Fn key at the bottom of the keyboard, hold it down, and then hit the F5 or F6 key.
Is there some way of making Linux Lite automatically add the Fn key by default when you hit F1 through F12?

Hello All,
I've just done an install from a Systemback image of my LL-2.8 system on the same hardware it was created on.
For some reason now when I plug in any external USB drive or mount an internal drive they open with Geany :o
I'm guessing it's probably something simple that's been messed up by Systemback, but I have no idea what or even what to look for to fix it.
If I Open as Administrator from the Desktop or any folder, then navigate to the drives I can view all the files on the drives, copy, paste, delete etc..
I've chown-ed them to my user which did change ownership but I still can't access them from my user account, every time I try Geany opens with the drive's UUID or label as it's title.
Cannot change the permissions of any internal partitions, it appears to do so but they remain as root ownership.
Used Systemback a few times now without issues, on both EXT4 & BTRFS filesystems, this time it's BTRFS for sda1 & sda3, swap is sda2.
Never seen anything like this before and have no idea where to even start searching for a solution, hopefully without having to start from scratch with a clean install.
Was wondering if anyone's seen something like this or perhaps knows of a fix?
Thanks
EDIT: the rest of the install seems to work fine so far, programs work as expected, settings all kept etc. etc..

Hi to All,
I installed the Linux lite 3.2., and then I installed Skype, version 4.3.0.37-0ubunt0.12.04.1, from "Lite software".
After that, i tried to run Skype, by clicking on the icon of Skype, I waited for six to seven minutes. There was not been any signs of connecting on Skype.
It happened same with Team Viewer.
Does anyone know what a problem is?

| Lite Desktop Widget: Update Status Error |

Hello everybody,
I couldn't find an answer on the forums or elsewhere. The power went out about a week ago while I was updating. Since then, the Lite Desktop Widget seems to be confused. It now says "99 days since your last update", though I've just updated and the system confirms that. Repeatedly disabling, loging out and in or restarting the computer and then enabling the widget again doesn't help either. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The matter is solved with the latest update.

| LIVE Boot User Name & Password? |

Can anyone tell me what the LIVE boot user name and password is?
I boot up the LinuxLite disk and ran it for a while. Ended up closing the screen to hit the hay
for the night and this morning when I went to open the lid, it prompted me with user name
and pass. I tried several things that other distros use, but no go.
Any help with this will be appreciated!

Hi
My LL has crashed.
I recently updated the software which went without a hitch. I was prompted to do a restart which I immediately did... now the computer won’t boot. It starts and gets as far as the screen with the feather, then the screen goes blank and the keyboard LEDs (caps lock etc) flash on-off every second(ish).
I started it in recovery mode (left shift key) and under “Advanced Options for Description” I successfully booted it in 4.4.0-62. The most recent version i.e. the one that crashes is 4.4.0-64.
So it looks like something went wrong with the last update, is there a way to roll back to 4.4.0-62 and retry the latest update?
Thanks.

Release Announcement
Linux Lite 3.4 Beta is now available for testing. There have been a number of changes since the 3.2 release. See below for all the changes.
Linux Lite 3.4 Final will be released on April 1st, 2017.

Lite Updates Notify - A new application for Linux Lite. Lite Updates Notify is a desktop notification that informs the user of all available updates. Menu, Favorites, Install Updates should be run before executing Lite Updates Notify for the first time. A HUGE thank you to Ralphy for his collaboration on this challenging application.
1. Menu, Settings, Lite Updates Notify.
![[Image: Sm0yo9e.png]](http://i.imgur.com/Sm0yo9e.png)
2. Select a notification frequency.
![[Image: Osxh5y1.png]](http://i.imgur.com/Osxh5y1.png)
3. When you receive your desktop notification, you will get either of two messages:
![[Image: 62qI9lM.png]](http://i.imgur.com/62qI9lM.png)
![[Image: 0S5n5l9.png]](http://i.imgur.com/0S5n5l9.png)
This is a notification only. Go to Menu, Favorites, Install Updates if the notification says you have updates to install. This is an optional application, you do not have to use it if you don't want to and it is disabled by default.
16.04.2 Base - Linux Lite 3.4 is based off 16.04.2, however, we do not include the 4.8 kernel Hardware Enablement Stack. The HWE stacks were never meant to be supported for the entire life of the LTS release. In the past, support has been limited between HWE releases. I prefer to offer people the option to switch to one of our custom kernels should you require newer hardware support, not forcefully impose a newer kernel where it is not necessary or where it may drop support for older hardware.
Lite Welcome - Has been improved by recommending people follow a basic 3 step post-install process. Install Updates > Install Drivers > Setting a Restore Point.

Window snapping by default - Dragging windows to the corners and snapping windows which is a feature familiar to Windows users, is now available in Linux Lite 3.4 Thank you to torreydale for this suggestion.
Joystick support - New in Linux Lite, better support for joysticks.
Changelog:
Kernel 4.4.0-65 (custom kernels also available via our Repository for versions 3.13 - 4.10)
Firefox 51.0.1
Thunderbird 45.7.0
LibreOffice 5.1.6.2
VLC - 2.2.2
Gimp 2.8.20
Base: 16.04.2
