Is there a way to set the login wallpaper, separate from the desktop wallpaper?
Posted by: Xorcist - 07-22-2016, 07:20 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Question is in the subject. I'm trying to find a way to set a different wallpaper for my login screen vs my desktop.

UPDATE: I figured it out, Settings -> Setting Manager -> System -> LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings

  Shotwell problem in 3.0
Posted by: Coastie - 07-22-2016, 06:04 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

I think Shotwell was in 2.8 Lite Software. Anyway it worked in 2.8. It is not in 3.0 so I installed it with Synaptic. It could not view the pictures from my camera although Thunar loaded them as png. Neither could Gimp, Ristretto , etc.  ???

Does anyone know what would cause this? Any recommendation for a photo organizer for LL 3.0?

Install LL 3.0 vs Ubuntu upgrade 14.04 to 16.04
Posted by: humdinger70 - 07-22-2016, 06:26 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

A couple of days ago, I received the DVD with LL 3.0 on it. Today Ubuntu announced the release of the first point upgrade of 16.04 (16.04.1). This is the point upgrade that allows a direct upgrade of Ubuntu 14.04 (which I have kept updated) to 16.04.

Which is actually preferable to do? Install or upgrade? FYI, nothing critical on the Ubuntu box.

  Microphone not working in Skype
Posted by: mandoran - 07-21-2016, 09:26 AM - Forum: Sound - Replies (14)

I have a good set of new headphones plugged into the LL desktop, but despite research, I cannot get the microphone to record, I cannot be heard, in Skype.

I have digested this thread: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?...ost9307284
which was advised in a similar circumstance, but despite everything appearing to be detected, nothing comes out of the mic.

How can I fix this?

  German Wikipedia - Keyboard shortcuts
Posted by: JohnD - 07-21-2016, 07:36 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

I'm preparing a German Wikipedia article about Linux Lite. Therefore I wonder, if the keyboard shortcuts in the GUI are common in a special GUI under Linux or if they are distinctive only for Linux Lite.

    Ctrl+Alt+T - opens a terminal.
Ctrl+Alt+Del - opens the logout dialogue.
Ctrl+Shift+Esc - opens the Task Manager.
Windows key - opens the Menu.
Windows key+H - opens your home folder.
Windows key+L - locks the screen.
Alt+F2 - opens the Application Finder dialogue box.
Printscreen key - opens the screenshot program.

  Missing wifi network menu icon
Posted by: Ron Fiedler - 07-20-2016, 11:06 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (7)

I am not a computer guru by any means but I usually don't dismiss items by error. I installed linux lite about a year ago and mostly use it with my home wifi network but sometimes I take it away from the house and want to log on to other wifi systems (such as a hotel) and when I attempted to do so last week I found  the wifi menu listing that used to be in the lower right corner along with the speaker volume icons to be missing.
I can do without the volume control but would like to find the wifi icon and put it back where it belongs. Does anyone have an answer for me? I am not literate enough to write code.
Thanks
Ron

  Wifi problem
Posted by: LinuxNoob - 07-20-2016, 10:37 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (1)

I recently went back to 2.8 64 bit from 3.0 I didnt like the long startup. Seems 2,8 starts up faster or atleast to me if feels quicker. I blame the confusing systemd thing. To avoid this I went 2.8 but now my wifi is giving problems as it seems to be dropping and coming back on. It happens all the time drops for a second and then comes back on.

Let me know if there is any other info required from me. I rememeber that it used to be a problem with a file that had more than one type competing for something and the router having trouble keeping the connection. It was so long ago I can hardly remember. What gets me is this is something that us linux users should not be having to deal with in 2016.

rant over.

  Shutdown kinda slow
Posted by: T1125P - 07-20-2016, 08:21 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (3)

Hi all, I recently reinstalled LL 1.0.6 on my netbook. Now for some reason the shutdown seems a bit slower even though I'm using an SSD drive. I read that you can use the terminal to shut down almost instanly using:  sudo poweroff -f  This is a forced shutdown but I want to know is this safe to use over time?
Also is it possible to make this a script and add it to the menu where it says logoff? I would love to just have a shutdown button there Smile

Thanks.

Install on an EEE PC 1015N
Posted by: Abw - 07-20-2016, 01:27 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

Hi,
I've installed many distros in this EEE PC 1015N without a hitch. But I wanted to speed up this little lappy and decided to try linux lite which works great in a virtualbox. But installing and then reinstalling results in exactly the same issues:
By default the install turns on num lock, so half the keyboard is off until the numlock is turned off, and sudo does not accept the assigned password. (wrong password, try again) So if anyone has an EEE PC try it and let me know. Otherwise I'll have to continue looking at other distros..
