  Undetermined error
Posted by: billtour - 07-07-2023, 03:05 AM - Forum: Updates - Replies (1)

I don't know if they are related, but this is just one of several problems I'm having with Linux Lite.  I have created a post for a problem getting VLC installed and working and another post for an issue with getting a DVD burner to work other than to watch a commercial DVD.

Thanks for any help you can offer.  Here is the update error log:

USB DVDRW drive: "...Failed Mount. Operation permitted for root only"
Posted by: billtour - 07-07-2023, 02:53 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (3)

New dvdrw drive (external usb).  I can play a commercial DVD with no problem.  An icon appears on the desktop (us-Initio_DVD-RAM_UJ-841S_0000000000000000W).  Brasero says it cannot find a burner.  When I try to mount it (right-click on icon), it gives me a "Failed Mount - operation permitted for root only".  What do you think?

Cant upload picture to forum post
Posted by: AcsPrime - 07-04-2023, 09:39 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

Hey,

So I just tried posting a very detailed issue in one of the forum sections and because I uploaded an image it just refused to accept it and trashed my post.
Can someone please update this forum software to something not from the 90s???
Why can I not upload images?? I was just trying to show how I can see something in the Disks app and something different in the df command line tool.

Why is it such a complication to be able to write decent posts like you can in other places like stackoverflow??
Such a let down this site

Adding ConvertAll to the software data base
Posted by: Jean-Marc B - 07-03-2023, 12:09 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

ConvertAll is very convenient software which allows the user to juggle any unit known to mankind (thermal, mass, weight, length, surface... whatever you name it), either Imperial or IS (metrics), or even less common ones. It's available on several distros (Ubuntu, Zorin OS, Linux Mint...) and even on Win.  I was very surprised not to find it on LL.

It's possible to install it from the designer website https://convertall.bellz.org/download.html, but it's rather bothersome.

Why not adding it to LL software data base ?

Where to get Tux keyboard stickers ?
Posted by: Jean-Marc B - 07-02-2023, 11:33 PM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Hi folks !

From the title of this post, you've guessed I want to mask the 'ugly win key' on my computer. In fact, on several.

Just one problem, the only place where I can find those Tux keyboard stickers if Fleabay and shipping costs just make the deal plain silly.

Searching the web didn't help either.

Any idea anybody ?

To be precise, I'm located in France, so somewhere in the EU or on the old continent, would be more convenient than down under or on any side of the globe.

Thanks.

  Public channel for LL updates
Posted by: arliccio - 07-01-2023, 03:15 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

Hi there ! First of all, I am not a english-speaker, then sorry for any language mistake.

Yesterday the Elon Musk's Twitter blocked the visit WITHOUT register of profiles and posts from the site  through the official channel (twitter.com) or third-party apps and sites (like Twidere or Nitter, the front-end I use to bring the Twitter feeds to my RSS reader, Liferea, on my Linux device).

Once the Linux Lite only uses the Twitter to share software updates (until what I know rn), could the developers, or even the comunity of users, build up a public channel for LL updates ? It could be, for instance, whether a "blog" in this domain or a profile on Mastodon, some kind of place don't requires register to access it.

Thank you for the attention. I am loving the experience of use this little Linux buddy on my 10 y.o. laptop, but this gap on the communication is downing it. Bye for now !

First want to install to a bootable disk then ........
Posted by: MsMixedup - 06-30-2023, 10:47 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

Hello ...... Before I ask questions I should tell you I'm a lady (senior). I know nothing about programming. Just wanted to try this.
I wanted to burn LL to a bootable disk. If I like it I wanted to take the disk and install LL as a dual boot setup on the drive so I can still get to windows 7.
I have someone here at home that will help me to some degree. They told me they had some trouble setting up a different version of linux because it asked for a password and when that was typed it just made unreadable dots. Has linux changed that ? How should I proceed ? By the way, where is the download ?

Help!! Update just broke my system!!
Posted by: timbuck2 - 06-30-2023, 04:41 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

So I had a notice that 2 updates (LL6.4) were available today linux-modules and nvidia_module I believe they were.

Went ahead and updated and it recommended to reboot so I did.

Now my desktop won't load.  Hangs with blinking cursor and black screen.

(I can still log in with Alt-F2 vrtual terminal if that can help reverse the update)

Please Help!!  I have no idea how to fix this!

Macbook Pro 2012 blank screen on boot up
Posted by: Norman Ibe - 06-29-2023, 09:21 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (8)

I've recently revived our old macbook pro 2012, upgrade ram to 8gb and installed a 512gb ssd,
after installing linux lite on my machine, and booting it up I'm stuck on a blank screen with a loading icon at the bottom.

I've tried a hard reset but the issue still is still there... so after many tries I've switch to another lightweight Linux distro (linux mint mate)

Can I install and android player/emulator in LL?  I have Bluestacks 4 in a separate partition on my Windows 7 machine, but it does not see the onboard bluetooth so it cannot do everything I want.  I tried installing BlissOS in Windows, but it does not like my hardware.
