Im kinda new to Linux but not....

Back in maybe 2002 I bought a markdown box of Redhat version 6.x & tried to install it on a very flaky HD....it never did anything.

then in @ 2009 I found a local LUG....WNYLUG to be exact...
They even had free pizza & Chicken wings!!!
Buffalo NY is the home of the Chicken wing.

I owned a Compaq z1010 Sempron 3000+......nope no dice
I bought a nameless P4 offa Criagslist.....nada

I decided I wanted to go with laptops when I realized the whole thing ran on a 65w power supply.

Seemed environmentally friendly to me & would require alot less room.

then in late summer 2010..I guess..  Best Buy {an American Electronics chain store}
had  an HP62-234dx for sale.....$499? +tax  has an i3 Processor

Was a hell of a bargain.....everything else with that CPU was $50 -$100 more

No Linux would run on it.. I must have tried over a dozen distros.
Zorin 7 or 8 maybe did the best.the laptop would run fine for about 2 hours & lock up completely.
I had to unplug it & remove the battery to get an response at all.
This was annoying to say the least. It had taken well over 6 months to get this far...

Its now Oct 2012...Best Buy came thru Again!
an HP G7-1350dx  A6 APU 17Inches....$399+Tax.... Its Big & Beautiful
I love it.....Still W7 thank  the gods!
It hates Linux too!!! Completely unuseable. Well, so I have a windows machine.

Im hoping the newer distributions will solve that ...

I suspect  odd-ball hardware in the way underpriced PCs is the problem.

Im running LL on an old Asus K60ij I bought offa Craigslist a while back.

It works well.

As might the LXLE I had on it previously that I demolished with my utter lack of Linux Knowledge & experience.

I almost forgot I have a now broken Dell e5430 with an i5 that I had Lubuntu 14.04 on
It screamed.. I loved it.....8G ram &7200 spin HD
when I fix it I will love it again!!

I have 2 more HP Laptops that a re much more run-of-the-mill'

An i5 Probook e6470b wPCLinuxOS on it for a few weeks now...
Its got a 14" screen  & its difficult for me too see.. I wanna get a big monitor to plug it into. that was $150 on Craigslist...


And a REAL bargain a 14" HP Dm4t  for only $75 !!!! Its like brand new.....too
I havent decide what to do with it yet....

I got this error  after installing the " Alarm Applet "  and directing  it to play this  mp3 audio file.  How do I go about  finding  out which plugin  is missing ?  Can some one help me out with this. I'm wanting to learn  how to find these things out on my own whenever possible.    thank you.

I sometimes make movies with my nexus 6 of my dog and cat playing together. When i want to watch them on my laptop running LL 3.0 with VLC i only have audio and no video.

In 2.8 when I try to move the panel to top of screen  by clicking  on panel / move  - then moving  icon to top of screen - nothing  happens. Is this broken ? or am I not doing  it right ? thank you

At the moment I cannot access my sda1 where LL is installed. In order to not have a long drawn out explanation ;  I can view files and folders from a live disk  of LL.  could someone just inform me where I can view a list of  all PPA's installed  in SDA1 from a live disk of LL . I just want to take a screenshot of all PPA's on SDA1  for a new install.  thanks

Hello guys & gals! I am a privacy activist for two years now, meaning I inform people on how to stay safe on the internet and protect their right to privacy... I have recently made the switch to Linux (after using Windows for around 8 years) and I am loving it. This distro is truly optimized and runs great on my not-so-great hardware (pun intended  ). Would also like to see a LXDE version in the future as it'd even make it faster. Nonetheless, great distro, easily the fastest I've tried on this laptop and you have made my laptop usable again. Thanks!

I have been test driving 3.0. There is too much blue to my taste in the gray in the only dark theme offered (Arc Dark). I did not find any dark flat gray themes that completely work in 3.0 although they work in 2.8 and other distros with the XFCE DE. I found reading Spatry's Cup of Linux forum http://cupoflinux.com/SBB/index.php/topi...27694.html, that "Many of the themes that ship with XFCE are not gtk3.20 compliant yet so while they will theme your desktop, GTK3.20 applications will NOT use the older gtk styles and will not match. ... Searching online for themes which are gtk3.20 compliant will yield SOME results."

I have been test driving 3.0. I prefer Gnome-brave icons. In 3.0 the restart icon is not in the actions buttons in the panel but instead a completely different double arrows. (I can't find a image of it but it is common in several icon themes.) I have copied gnome brave and gnome common colors in to icons folder /usr/share/icons/ and tried a .icons folder in the home folder too. Neither worked. Any suggestions?

Now that you can change your kernel, to an excellent selection of 15 different kernels, it raises a question. According to kernel.org kernel 3.14 (for example) runs out of support this August. As the kernels in the repository are Linux Lite custom kernel's, are the LTS dates the same, longer, or shorter? The reason I ask is that I recently changed some older/less powerful computers running LL 3.0 to Linux Lite custom kernel 3.13.0. Thanks again to anyone with some information on this. Also thanks to Jerry & team for making kernel changes on Linux Lite so very easy.
