How do I change folder names in Thunar to my native language
Posted by: nomko - 01-23-2016, 11:14 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

*edit*
This did the trick: https://mityer.khdlhfjijfrupr.tk/manual/install.html#setlang. But only for the Whisker menu. How can i also change the folder names in Thunar from English to Dutch?

  Linux Lite Xfce vs. Xubuntu
Posted by: nomko - 01-23-2016, 12:30 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (53)

Beside the usage of the same desktop environment, what is basically the main difference between Linux Lite and Xubuntu? In what way does Linux Lite differ from let's say Mint Xfce, Xubuntu and other Debian/Ubuntu derivatives using Xfce?

Suggestion for an addition to the menu
Posted by: avj - 01-23-2016, 04:12 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (11)

I got to thinking about what windows users are used to having available from the menu, and thought it would be nice if the menu had access to user folders like the Documents, Downloads, Pictures, and others.  So I made the menu entries on my system to see if it would work. Below is a screenshot of my results.

For the item entries, in the command I entered "thunar" followed by a space, and the folder name of the folder for each item.
Example:  thunar Documents

  LiteOS based on Ubuntu means...
Posted by: nomko - 01-23-2016, 12:48 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

Hi all,

I like to try Linux Lite on my daughter's rather old laptop (+/- 5 years old). But i came across some information about Linux Lite. As i'm well familiar with Ubuntu, i used Ubuntu from 7.04 till 10.04.3 and ditched it in favor of Mint due to the (IMO) horrible Unity desktop, i also know that Ubuntu, unlike Mint, doesn't come with full multimedia support.

So, to avoid any disappointments, m question is: does Linux Lite OS come with multimedia fully installed or not? Like to see someone here to can enlighten me about this.
Many thanks!

  Screen Brightness
Posted by: somewhereman - 01-22-2016, 09:39 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (3)

this is one issue that was hard to find a suitable answer for
my screen was stuck at maximum brightness (not so bad during the day, but at night was blinding)

i tried everything i could find on the interwebs,
and there was quite a few suggestions as this is a common issue, all to no avail

finally i found this solution:
open the terminal and input
xrandr | sed -n 's/ connected.*//p' | xargs -n1 -tri xrandr --output {} --brightness 0.6

where 0.6 at the end of the string = 60% of max brightness,
this can be changed to whatever you wish between 0-1 ie 0.8 = 80% of max, 0.4 = 40% of max, etc.

so i simply saved this line in libre office and input it in the evening once and am done,
next morning it boots to max for the day

i hope this helps someone out (it seems to be a catch-all and may ork for any set-up),
as it is a common struggle and can be frustrating

Setting up auto login after Suspend
Posted by: n1ksn - 01-22-2016, 12:25 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I've decided I don't need a passworded login for my laptop.  The LL "Enable Autologin" did not work (it gave me an error message), but I found on this forum a fix involving creating a lightdm.conf file.  So now I don't need a password on startup.

However, I still need a password when coming out of Suspend.  How can I return from Suspend without a password?  I searched the LL Forum, but could not find any info.  Is this an entry in some menu, or will another configuation file need to be created or edited?

Thanks,
Andy N1KSN

... Black Lab Linux. Anyone else had a look at it?

I liked it but wondered why the need to put everything one could think of into a distro? Is it is "guy" thing, by any chance, or a "group of guys thing"?

Just asking, so please, don't jump on me too hard, ok?  8)

ps. Not changing from LL, no way at all, like it here and like the program!

  Network share not working
Posted by: paul1149 - 01-21-2016, 12:02 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (15)

I'm stumped on this one. I'm trying to set up a network share on a friend's laptop. I've downloaded the Samba configurator. I created a folder under the user hierarchy, and I pointed the configurator to it as a share. It is writable and requires user credentials to log in.

The share shows up on my own LL machine, but I cannot log into it.

What's more, if I navigate through Browse Network on my friend's machine and go to the share in question, to access the folder I have to navigate the login dialog as if I were on an external machine. And the login fails just as it does on my own machine. It's as if the share were on a different machine. This user uses a password to log into the machine.

Something very basic is wrong here, but I fail to see what. I'm attaching the smb.conf file.
