Dell wireless card 1395 is not recognized
Posted by: EDS - 12-10-2015, 02:42 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (7)

Just loaded LL 2.6.  Dell wireless card 1395 is not recognized. Works fine on XP. Can someone help me?  I am ready to remove MS XP as soon as I can get this card working. I love this OS. My computer is a Dell Vostro 2510.

  Command shortcuts
Posted by: Zead - 12-09-2015, 12:19 AM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (3)

I'm not sure if someone posted this already, but I've found this neat command line feature a while back.

Maybe you all already know about this, who knows.

Let's say you want to type in inside terminal: "sudo apt-get autoremove --purge", but instead, you can just type in "!1".

All you have to do is:

1) Open ".bash_history" located in /home/yourname/
2) Type in to the first line: sudo apt-get autoremove --purge

3) Save, and you are done!
4) Now open your terminal, and for example type: !1 skype (And it will completely wipe out your skype including it's configuration files and all dependencies installed with it).

For example when I want to update my system, I just open my terminal and type in: !1, and then my password. Fast, easy.
Whatever you add to second line in ".bash_history" will be !2 and so on.

Just please don't run the update command I have without knowing what you are doing. Linux Lite devs recommend not to run dist-upgrade.

I'm sure there are ways to bind the command lines to your keyboard macros, But I haven't found how to do that yet.

I hope this tutorial is helpful to someone. Wink

This has reared its ugly head again while running LL 2.6.

This started about three days ago and yesterday removed chrome from LL 2.6 and reinstalled.

Its still happening.

Grateful for any advice.

how to install windows 7 on my hard drive
Posted by: jclassic1 - 12-08-2015, 11:13 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (6)

My old desktop computer used to run Windows 7 but I have wiped the hard drive and now have only Linux Lite installed.
This is great for me but my wife does not like the Linux system and would like to have the Windows 7 installed as well.
I have no idea about using gparted program to set up the hard drive so I can install windows and need someone to give me step by step instructions on how to do it.
Looking at the Gparted set up is really putting me off of trying in case I ruin what I already have installed.

Please help me as the wife is threatening to buy a new windows computer if I cannot sort it out.

Thanks

John

  how to remove leftovers
Posted by: jclassic1 - 12-08-2015, 07:18 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I have used Maxthon web browser recently but have now removed it but when I use Clam it still finds it for scanning.
I have read on another Linux OS forum a post explaining how to do this but cannot remember where I saw it.
Can any members tell me how to completely remove these programs from LL.

Thanks

John

  How to Change System Locale?
Posted by: Duckeenie - 12-08-2015, 12:45 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

It seems my system locale has been set to US.UTF-8 despite having chosen the UK as my location during the installation of LL.

As a result I can't figure out how to read or write MP3 tags that need an apostrophe properly.

Is it safe to change my System Locale at this time? How would I do it?

  New user of Linux Lite
Posted by: jclassic1 - 12-07-2015, 12:00 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (10)

I have been using OS now for about a week and so far I am very pleased with it.
Up to 8 months ago I was a Windows 7 user but like many I was getting tired of constantly having to check for viruses and defrag my system and the inevitable system crashes.
Since then I have tried a good number of different Linux OS including Ubuntu, Zorin 9,Mint 17.2 and others I cannot remember.
This Linux Lite must be perhaps the best one so far and similar to Zorin 9 in the way it opperates.
I really liked Linux Mint 17.2 but fancied something a bit lighter on my system.
AS I have said I have only been using it for about a week but it seems like I might keep this one for a while.

Touchpad shows up as a mouse
Posted by: davalv - 12-07-2015, 03:38 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Hello,
I'm a new user to Linux Lite 2.6.
My laptop specs as follows:
ASI Model: SP15R-UMA
Intel Core i5-2520M 2.5GHz.
8Gb of RAM
Intel HD 3000 Graphics
Touchpad: Sentelic
Hard drive: Sandisk SSD 250Gb.
My question is, The Sentelic Touchpad shows up as a generic mouse.
There is no tab to configure two finger scroll. Is there a fix for this?
Other than that, everything else works great. Runs real fast, so far I'm happy with the performance, it's faster than M$ Win 10.

Thanks,
Dave
