Hello from Sunny Scotland, United Kingdom :)
Posted by: CEUOTC - 09-07-2015, 01:49 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (9)

Hi all, been a avid fan of LL for a long time, and after much frustration with other distro's once again l find myself installing LL Smile great to see it has come on leaps and bounds since l last ran LL.

Love the out of the box experience, the no nonsense approach to software install and updates.

I no longer have the time to tweak a OS and l really need it to work out of the box, insteps LL, covers all my needs and keeps me away from W10.

Most of the games that l play within the W10 environment are now covered within Linux, be it Minecraft (ye l know, a man of my age!), Warthunder or WoT.

Running stable on my main PC and also my Media laptop with Linux 3.13.0-62-generic, (Kernel 4.2 did not like Nvidia on the Acer Aspire), looking to push it onto my mobile laptop when l get time.

Great work.

Regards

C.

Hi

Brand new to this.

Finally installed Linux Lite onto spare machine to use as a backup  for other PCS and maybe a server.

I have my main machine and the linux lite machine feeding to one monitor through a vga switch.  since installing linux lite when I switch to my main PC and then back to the linux lite machine I have no display.  This wasnt the case when I ran Windows on the old machine.

Can anyone give me a fix?

Cheers

hidden wifi on old iMac works in LXLE but not liteos
Posted by: morti - 09-06-2015, 03:19 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (4)

Ive two iMacs. The newer one is easy to set up wifi under Liteos (has hidden wifi option) but Liteos on my older imac doesn't have this setting.

I just thought its probably older wifi so doesn't get detected...but if I run LXLE on the older iMac the hidden wifi option appears...and sets it up easily.

Can I find out what apts or extras are in LXLE that I can install in Liteos to make this work?

  Language Problem
Posted by: Rods - 09-06-2015, 01:45 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

It is a great distro, but it is unfortunate that the system installation is done in English and even after changing it to Portuguese, half the going gets English and the other half in Portuguese.
Other distros (Mint / Ubuntu) translate perfectly to the Portuguese.
* I've done the tutorial, but was not very successful. Translation is incomplete.

Sorry for English.

  Wine uninstall problems with Evernote
Posted by: Colin23erk - 09-05-2015, 09:46 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Evernote was working OK through  Wine . For some reason it will not now allow me to edit text (no Cursor)

I used the Wine uninstall to remove Evernote to do a clean install .

When  I try to reinstall Evernote I get a message that--- another User  has it installed and I need to remove it First. --There is no evidence that I can find and I am the only user.

I have tried removing Wine using Lite Software  and reinstalling it with no change and my Memory-Map program still works without reinstalling

Using Synaptic and doing a Complete removal  of all Wine components removes Memory-Map  but I still cannot install Evernote because it still thinks its installed .

I have installed NixNote 2 which is OK except it cannot Decrypt my Encrypted files  so I need to reinstall Evernote to Decrypt them first.

I even tried removing Evernote from Windows registry

  USB DisplayPort monitor
Posted by: JonMikelV - 09-04-2015, 10:38 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (1)

First of all, please let me know if this belongs in "other" instead of Video Cards!

I was wonder what sort of luck people have had with DisplayPort based USB monitors - particularly with the latest 2.6 update (I'm using 64 bit).

I've got an AOC e1649fwu DisplayPort USB display I was thinking of trying out but:
a) my computer is kinda of buried (and I'm lazy)
b) my e1649fwu is a bit of a daily use device on a different machine (so I don't want to risk screwing up the display somehow)

I've seen some general search results where people have talked about getting such displays working with Ubuntu, but these pages also often talk about needing to install custom kernels, change desktop environments, adjust primary displays, etc.  I'm not tech phobic - but in the world of Linux it doesn't take much for me to get hopelessly lost, and I've already got one Linux box that recently died for no reason - I don't need to have a second one waiting on me finding some free time.  :-)

Thanks for any input!

My username is eronis but I don't know why, forum called me by my name. How can I change this. I don't mind to connect this forum with my real name. But it would be a real pain to log in.

I don't know where should i sent this post, so I sent it here.

Virus Detected on Lite 2.6 Wallpapers
Posted by: vagnerafonso - 09-04-2015, 06:44 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (23)

Greetings,

I recently downloaded Lite 2.6 32Bit and booted it up in Virtual Box.  I grabbed all of the wallpapers located in /usr/share/backgrounds/xfce and created a .zip archive.  When I went to email that archive to myself via Gmail, Google warned me that there was a virus detected. I wanted to bring this up with the community and hopefully someone would have an answer as to why this occurred.

Thank you

Compaq Presario v6310us Notebook PC not recognizing wifi adapter
Posted by: torreydale - 09-03-2015, 11:39 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (5)

Worked on a friend's laptop.  He said the wifi adapter worked using MS Vista.  Said he used wifi while in Vista to download the installation media for LL.

He attempted to install LL onto the Presario v6310us himself and couldn't get the wifi adapter to work.  I took over.  Started from scratch.  Got it running LL 2.6, but I couldn't get the wifi adapter to work either.  It seemed LL doesn't even know it has a wifi adapter.

I told the guy to spend the $8-10 on a usb wifi adapter which would bring him up to 802.11n.  The onboard adapter, according to specs at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6834147415, only supports 802.11b/g.

But I'm still curious.  So I'm attaching the System Report in case anyone has any ideas.  Knowing what happened here might help me in the future.
