LL install gets stuck at the "Updates and other software" section
Posted by: RobertUSA - 04-25-2023, 02:41 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Dear fellow Linux Lite users,

I love the new Linux Lite!  Kudos to the wonderful developers!

To help those in need and to help our environment by keeping useful things (old laptops) out of the landfill, I refurbish old laptops and give them away to those in need so that they can apply online for jobs.

In a few cases involving Apple products (such as a late 2008 MacBook Air), the Linux Lite install process gets stuck at the "Updates and other software" section -- even when none of the boxes are checked.  As a result, the installation process fails -- and I need to use another Linux distro instead.

I would welcome any advice.

All the best,
Bobby

  clipboard manager recommendation needed
Posted by: Rosika - 04-21-2023, 02:05 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (5)

Hi all,  Smile

I´m using Linux Lite 6.2 and I´m very satisfied with it.  :045:

Well, I was looking for a clipboard manager but it seems LL doesn´t come with one per default.
So I ´m looking for a good one to install. Doing a bit of research I found those:

- copyq
- gpaste
- klipper
- clipman
- diodon

Hmm, I´m not quite sure which would be best for LL. Klipper for example  seems to be optimized (exclusively?) for the KDE environment.

Does anyone of you have a good suggestion?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Many greetings

Trying to Create Bootable USB X3 Partitions With Testing Distros
Posted by: Bondppq - 04-19-2023, 10:57 AM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Can I have 3 different bootable Linux distro each on their own partitions on 1 USB thumbdrive, but what would happen when you insert the thumbdrive? Would a boot menu load first asking the user which partition you would like to start from?

I would like to eliminate any extra steps so that I can just plug in the thumbdrive and it goes into an autoloader mode to install the Linux distro, but a simple boot menu as described above is fine besides anything else further. Will this be possible and how much space would I need for this per partition, per Linux distro?

And with a new USB - (SanDisk Ultra Luxe 32GB USB 3.1 SDCZ74-032G-G46) after reformatting to EXT4 for these partitions will I be wiping away any vital Linux drivers or kernels that would prevent me from doing the set up what I’ve described above? thanks in advance for your advice.

  installing bluetooth
Posted by: ieyecaptin - 04-18-2023, 07:18 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (1)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to install or activate Bluetooth on my Linux Lite 6.2 PC. Under Settings, I tried to study the applications 'Bluetooth Adapters and Bluetooth Manager, but found no devices. Perhaps I need a piece of hardware to use Bluetooth on the PC. Having only recently installed Linux onto this pc, I was unsure if I would need a Linux specific device. Any advice would be appreciated. : )

in File manager having DEVICES, PLACES NETWORK show
Posted by: JanetBiggar - 04-14-2023, 02:45 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

I'm cleaning up a laptop that was placed with a student and noticed that when I open the administrator file manager file it NO LONGER shows the dark grey part on the left side where it lists DEVICE, PLACES, NETWORK.  I would like to get this back, but I've tried seeing if it's hidden (meaning the items side is pulled right over to the left side), but there's no ability to "pull" on the left side and expose this dark grey area.  Have a look at the two screen shots I have - one is from another laptop running LL 3.8 and then this one also running LL 3.8.
Does anyone know how I can get the grey left side back?

  xfce4-panel: some icons missing (sometimes)
Posted by: Rosika - 04-14-2023, 01:52 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

Hi all,  Smile

I´m using Linux Lite 6.2 which makes use of (a modified version of) the xfce DE. By default it comes with the xfce-panel. The version of the panel LL uses is 4.16.3-1.
I´m sure you all know that.  Wink

Every now and then I notice that some icons are missing from the panel. Those icons should be visible at all times when a certain programme/process is started.

Here´s an example:

I start nixnote2 and the respective nixnote-icon is shown in the panel. That´s alright so far. But suddenly - seemingly out of nowhere - the icon vanishes although the nixnote process is still running.

The same can theoretically happen to any other icon, like the Linux Lite Terminal-icon.  :-[

However: when I restart the panel process with "xfce4-panel -r" all icons are there again. Well, although this seems not to be anything major it still can be a bit annyoing to a certain extent.

Curiously enough there are days when all works well, without any hiccups but today I needed to restart the panel already twice...  :032:

Has anyone of you encoutered anything similiar to that? And if so, could you fix the issue?

Many thanks for your help in advance and many greetings

Rosika  :wave

P.S.:

BTW: there are no log entries indicating that something would not be right. I looked for that with lnav.
