is there a way that we can get the updated version 2.92 via synaptic so that we get all the dependencies as well etc.?  Thanks.

Posted by: jim2you71 - 06-02-2015, 12:01 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (5)

Linux lite 32 bit on my laptop.
Synaptic shows that google earth is installed but I can't find it anywhere in the menu.

Actually what I have installed is googleearth-package.

How do I get google earth to show up and run?

  Firefox not playing MP3
Posted by: jeffvanderdoes - 05-31-2015, 03:52 PM - Forum: Sound - Replies (2)

Hi,

Thought I'd post here for any insight others may have.  Seems Firefox 38.0 on LinuxLite 2.4 doesn't want to play playback mp3 from various sites.  While likely a Firefox issue just wondering has faced it and found a solution?

Thanks!

  Linux Lite Grub2 fails
Posted by: transadd - 05-30-2015, 07:19 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

Hi
Starting new thread as advised.

I am running Linux Lite on sda7 booting from my Debian 8 boot loader on sda  MBR
Unfortunately  Linux Lite  installation would not allow my Debian Grub2 to work, and from the internet I found I was not alone.
This was a shame as I found  Linux Lite very good to use but wanted to keep my Debian boot loader.
For a time I switched to "Handy Linux" but still wanted to use "Linux Lite "

My solution though NOT very good allowed me to keep my Debian and other disto's

After generating a grub.cfg with update-grub I edited the Debian grub.cfg with geany.
Finding the first entry for Linux Lite and after the word linux I added these two lines
/boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-24-generic root=/dev/sda7 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic

This addition will of course have to be repeated if update-grub is used again in Debian or the kernel is changed
To make this easier I copied the two lines to the heading and made them comments by preceding them with an #

This allows me to boot Linux Lite from my Debian Grub2 Menu

It may not be the correct way of doing things but it worked

Regards
John

After reading information on the net I installed Linux Lite 3.2 putting Grub on the root .

On running  update-grub on my original Distro,  Linux Lite was in the boot menu and I was able to boot into it.

Its great to be using Linux Lite again, thanks to all  for making this possible.

Regards

John

  unsuccessful installation
Posted by: Nicholai Doronto - 05-29-2015, 07:28 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

Hello to everyone !

Sad thing I could not install this version on my netbook Samsung NC110 and it's my first Linux try out. I've made a bootable usb stick as it was described in Install Guide. Since I want to leave one partition untouched where I store files, documents music, etc, I went for the something else option in the installation menu. In gparted I've deleted partition where windows was installed, using a free space, I've created swap partition at the end and made an ext4 root that was chosen for LinLite installation. After intstallation to no avail it only boots iso from usb stick. What's causing this problem..? Maybe someone could explain what I do wrong..?

Thanks in advance,

Updating Linux Lite Live USB not working
Posted by: Rogue Willie - 05-29-2015, 04:32 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (19)

I have been able to boot from a USB stick. When I first checked for updates I couldn't get my wireless adapter to work. It turns out it wasn't Linux compatible. Got a new adapter and was eventually able to connect. When i checked for updates it downloaded about 80 packets or so and started the install. After installing a message came that said installation failed. I thought it might have been a poor wireless connection so I moved it from the garage and hooked it up via a cable. After all the updates and install I got the same failed message. Any thoughts?

  Keyboard media keys
Posted by: kris - 05-28-2015, 12:08 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

So i have this keyboard which I use for a while now, and all around the standard keys which you (should) have on any keyboard, there are 12 media keys. Those are supposed to be shortcuts to calculator, home folder, mail etc. And they all work fine in windows, but not in linux.
So i searched a bit, and found installed-by-default editor for keyboard, called "keyboard" in whisker menu. It is just about perfect, but I just can't seem to find which commands to use for play/pause media button, and next/previous also.
Anybody any ideas?
Thanks in advance... Smile

Item - Request - Touchpad disable script inclusion.
Posted by: sysdrum - 05-27-2015, 02:28 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (4)

I have a simple synaptic touchpad script that disables and re-enables the touchpad given a key press for those who would like to have more control when typing on some laptops. I would like to have it included in the scripts folder and maybe a note about it. I know that under the mouse and touchpad settings you can enable and disable plus set a delay when typing but sometimes that is not usable. For those using a usb mouse a quick key option would be nice so that they can turn it on and off without having to use the menu.
It is a simple yet nice feature that other distros don't have.
It is on my github.
I can post it here for review.
