  Music Mix
Posted by: bitsnpcs - 09-28-2014, 12:58 AM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Hello,

I have just completed my first ever music mix, and just wanted to share about this.
I used Linux Lite and Audacity.
It is the first project I have done using Linux.
I used 16 separate sessions, this taking me total time of just over 32 hours to make the mix, the mix is 50 minutes and 33 seconds duration.
The time includes learning to use Audacity (sort of lol), on the fly whilst making the mix, without RTM at all, I did view it at the beginning it didn't cover any of the things I wanted to know at that time, so I left it alone for later, and had a play instead, which is usually how I first begin to use a software.
I also used some sound effects, and I also made different ones by overlapping/merging anything from 2-5 effects, I also made a couple of effects by using sound bites of songs.
A maximum of approximately no more than 50% of any song duration was used, and many use less than this.
The beginning of a song on the mix in some cases is not the beginning of the original song, and in some cases the song on the mix begins 50 or even 75% through the original song, done for blending/making fit, effect.

It's a reggae mix, I used the sub genres  -  Lovers Rock, Roots, Dancehall, Reggaeton.
It begins with lovers rock and ends with it too.
I use roots either side of the dancehall. This was a challenge being the fastest and slowest songs.

I like the mix myself but am unsure if anyone else would like it, it was a really enjoyable and fun first project, I hope my post encourages someone else with whatever their first project on Linux Lite is, and I hope to read about your projects too.

Linux Lite 1.0.8 and Bash Vulnerability
Posted by: dby - 09-27-2014, 12:53 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

Hello everyone, my first time posting.

I'm currently running Linux Lite 1.0.8 and as its performed faultlessly on my ageing former XP machine I haven't yet upgraded to 2.0. However, with the recent Shellshock bug being reported I've installed system updates and updated the Bash.

Having done that, I've run the tests recommended here: https://mityer.khdlhfjijfrupr.tk/forums/index...opic=925.0 and the second still returns 'Vulnerable'. My question is threefold: is this a problem to be concerned with, is there likely to be a fix, or am I better off upgrading to 2.0?

I look forward to seeing any suggestions.

several bugs, change passwd fixed everything
Posted by: wenomeno - 09-27-2014, 09:50 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

Hi,

after installation I had several problems:

- password was not properly set, so it didn´t work
- screen resolution was stuck at 640x480

I accessed grub and changed there my password and at reboot everything was magically set up, even screen resolution  :o  Tongue

I find it strange and worth sharing

nice distro by the way, I´m free of Windows Vista now

  Missing Help Manual
Posted by: Daveyboy - 09-26-2014, 11:57 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

As a recent Windows XP convert I started out with LL 1.08 (Dual Boot) and loved it. I have just installed LL 2.0 but when I click on the run Help Manual I get the following error message

Error when getting information for file 'usr/share/doc/xfce4-utils/html/c/index.html': No such file or directory

Could someone please advise me , in simple terms, how I can remedy this problem

  New Install Advice (update included)
Posted by: ChrisL - 09-26-2014, 11:54 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

My "vehicle" is 32 bit Windows XP, Celeron 3.2?Ghz, 1G Ram, I think the kicker is the graphics card GeForce FX5200.  There seems to be some question if this card is compatible with the new release 2.0 LL or if I have to use an older release.

So, that is question #1 I guess:

1) What release ... (would prefer the latest if it will support the drivers which are the nvidia 173.xx for this card)?
2) The manual suggests I get advice for the set-up I would like.  I have XP on one small (40G hard drive) which is good enough for what little I do on it, and would like to install Linux Lite on a second clean Hard Drive that is 120G, and would like to dual boot.  Best way to do so?

Your help is much appreciated.  Thank you.

Chris

What media player do LL2-users use for downloading & playing podcasts?
Posted by: m654321 - 09-26-2014, 08:04 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (11)

As far as I'm aware I can't usethe VLC media player (that comes with the LL2 software bundle) for downloading & playing radio podcasts (or can I?).

I did some experimentation and found 'Clementine 123', which is v.popular, not to work very well with LL2 - the preset sound setting is too low.

What media player do forum members recommend for LL2? Any suggestions for LL2?

Regards
Mike

  Feather Splash Screen Missing
Posted by: sonic - 09-26-2014, 06:32 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (2)

I installed yesterday LL 2.0 32-bit at a TOSHIBA Laptop. Everything works except the boot splash screen, the one with the feather and the progress bar. After the first reboot it didn't changed, but when I shutdown it and power up, it's replaced by the Ubuntu 14.04 one with the dots. I didn't changed anything, I installed updates after the installation. Any idea?

Thanks in advance.
