  Hello I'm yrjo1!

My computer is old PC with one AMD Athlon XP processor. I used to have Linux Mint (Maya) 13 and Mate desktop, but what I didn't like about it was processor use being all the time around 95%. On Linux Lite it is only around 40%.
So I am very pleased on the processor usage and the nice outlook of Linux Lite.

  No sound
Posted by: crunch182 - 02-14-2014, 10:51 AM - Forum: Sound - Replies (7)

hi guys,

I am a newbie and recently I was troubleshooting my sound - which at the time was crackling - but now I have no sound, to which I sound card is not detected or is deleted.  Can you please help?  I tried following the sound troubleshooting in the manual options for my OS and this is what I got up to.

I really can't stand no sound - no music, no videos, mo' problems.  Anywho, so I have browsed a lot of different areas and I have no access capabilities which may be the problem? In the sound control panel I have no output or no sound cards to configure.

It seems to me the system is recognizing drivers and all that and when looking I'm not I have the right compatitibility either:

The first link shows the troubleshooting I have done in terminal (sorry if it's a bit excessive):

I have attached files for any hopefully helpful information.

  Next LTS LL

I've been testing the 14.04 Ubuntus. Been very impressed with both main Ubuntu and Xubuntu. I'm looking forward to the next new LTS release of Linux Lite. Any idea when we might see an Alpha/Beta/RC early version of Linux Lite?

  Small Note About Off-Topic Threads

In this section, you can post anything you like, as long as it doesn't include any inappropriate content. One thing to be aware of: DO NOT advertise, market, or promote any Microsoft / Apple products or any topic that will conflict with the philosophy of Linux, Open Source and Free Software. This is a Linux forum, so it should be made clear. Thank you and happy posting!

I tend to go with smaller, personalized versions of distros.  I joined the LinuxLite community a few months ago when I needed a new distro after the one I was using was discontinued (SolusOS by Ikey Doherty).

I've been using Linux for many years at home, and even got my wife and kids to use it!

I really like the SMF forums and especially in a dark theme.  I like this theme quite a bit, but still had to modify it to be a little darker/simpler (see my sig for link even though the BBCode seems to not work fully).

This is a simple desktop using 3 panel: 2 XFCE panels (bottom left and bottom right) and 1 DockBarX panel (top left).

Conky is used to monitor the system.

  Word Processor
Posted by: Coastie - 02-13-2014, 10:55 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (8)

Why was Libre Office selected for Linux Lite?

For me I only need a word processor so I uninstalled Libre Office. I installed AbiWord  because I think it is lighter that Libre Office's word processor. I found whenever I wanted to open a word document, I was asked if I wanted to use Libre Office first then something else where I found AbiWord. I have uninstalled AbiWord and reinstalled Libre Office's word processor because I figured there must be a good reason to use it instead of AbiWord.

If I install AbiWord and uninstall Libre Office's word processor, will AbiWord be updated when I update Linux Lite?

Can I change the preferred word processor to AbiWord?

A "Thank You" button for posts?

I wonder if a "Thank You" button (like on the LDC forums) would be implemented into these forums?

  Clean upgrade
Posted by: mandoran - 02-13-2014, 08:50 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (8)

Hello all,

I was just wondering if some wise person could give a list of the essential customizations to save before doing a clean install of a new version of Linux Lite.

I've tried Aptik to prepare somewhat. I know some advise backing up the root and home directories, but that seems like overkill - surely there is a small subset of that that is relevant to changes one might want to keep and reinstall?

Thanks!
