  Restoring Google Chrome at startup
Posted by: Natrixx - 10-07-2022, 02:52 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Hiya!

I just recently switched to Linux and was wondering about a very specific startup setup configuration I'd like to achieve. Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post in.

Here's the situation. I usually run quite a few Chrome windows, scattered around 4-6 different workspaces. In each window there are quite a few tabs, grouped, of course! All the Chrome windows are named in order to quickly identify them. The windows are also attached to different profiles, at the moment 2.

I'd like to be able to restart my computer so that all the Chrome windows are restored and moved to the workspace they were on when I shut down the computer. Unfortunately I'm not fully there yet. Chrome starts up when i log in again, but the following is lacking:

1) Only the windows of one of the profiles are restored. A window opens under the other profile but it's only the base window. I have to go to History => Recently closed, select the latest window(s) and click Restore window. Not an impossible task but it would be sweet to have it done automatically.

2) All the windows are restored on the starting workspace, not on the ones they originally were on.

So, I'm probably looking for some settings I haven't found yet. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

  Mike

If Release Candidate installed, will updates bring it to stable release?
Posted by: PrivateTech - 10-06-2022, 09:43 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (2)

Hello,

If I install a Release Candidate, like LinuxLite 6.2 RC1, when the stable official 6.2 or newer are released, will the updates pick up the stable version and update from 6.2 RC1 to Stable 6.2 and it will continue to update normally within the series?

(P.S. I really wish an upgrade from series to series was possible through Update/Upgrade procedure without reinstallation or some workaround tricks.)

Thank you.

Quite interested in this new Arch based distro. I'm going to test run it over the next few weeks.

They mention forking and improving librewolf browser as their default browser and offer multiple file system options including zfs.

To solve this installed LL 5.4. Now Xsane shows up in GIMP again. Yay!

Greetings everyone,

Hope someone can solve the mystery of why xsane does not show up in gimp after installation. Please save me from the dreaded Windoze machine.

Thank you.

  Systemback Fork
Posted by: Artim - 10-03-2022, 12:23 PM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Hi!

Good news if you're a fan of the old systemback backup-and-restore utility, no longer supported. It has been forked and development continues! Find it here.

I liked systemback because it was point-and-click simple and you could make a bootable iso and write it to a thumbdrive all in a single app.

Just thought I'd pass along some good news for any other systemback fanboys and girls.

Danged if You Do, Danged if You Don't

The latest from my blog, on Linux Lite:

Quote:
Maybe I’m finally getting a sense of what it’s like for Linux developers, putting up with criticism from people like me who really have no clue about what goes into developing an operating system or software.

"This distro has too many PPAs!" I complained both here in my blog and the distro’s forum.

The next release, the distro had moved stuff into it’s own repository and had no PPAs. Very cool! They listened!

Now the latest version of the distro offers Google Chrome as it’s default browser. My reaction: “WHAT!? Google is EVIL! Forget this, I’m outta here!” But Linux Lite is for novice users, most either coming from Windows or altogether new to computing. Chrome is probably a good choice for them, I guess, but - it’s effing EVIL. So the developer offers a way to get Firefox instead, but it installs snapd and comes as a snap package! My reaction: "Nooooo, snapd is EVIL! You should offer a PPA instead!"

Danged if he does, danged if he doesn’t. See what I mean?

I hate it when my hypocrisy shows up so obviously for the whole world to see. Criticism of a free OS coming from a clueless technophobe. So I apologized publicly on the forum, and now here on the blog.

I know I’m not unique or alone in such bad behavior, but maybe my bad example can be helpful to some others who, like me, have been quick to criticize when they really don’t know the work they’re finding fault with. Let’s give developers a break, and make your findings - good and bad - known privately and politely as a tester if you want to help make it better.
