Hi AVG many thanks for your reply.  Yes I'm running a emachines 350 netbook and (fn)F11 is the way to turn off the nums lock which is on when I boot up.  I have to put in the the keyring password on boot up to access the wlan  which I will look through the forum for answers to take that off.  thankyou for your help
