Just followed your advice but it 'fell-over' here, and I haven't got a clue what it means  Sad

linux@linux:~$ sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sdc
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: error: failed to get canonical path of `/cow'.
