Shutdown kinda slow

Hi all, I recently reinstalled LL 1.0.6 on my netbook. Now for some reason the shutdown seems a bit slower even though I'm using an SSD drive. I read that you can use the terminal to shut down almost instanly using:  sudo poweroff -f  This is a forced shutdown but I want to know is this safe to use over time?
Also is it possible to make this a script and add it to the menu where it says logoff? I would love to just have a shutdown button there
