Thanks for that - by removing the ppa for qtcam I've got an update to occur without error messages. When I feel brave I'll try and rectify the qtcam problem.
Thanks again, I was loosing confidence in the whole Linux system

		Hi. I had this problem. I updated from 4.4 to 4.6 and this apparently fixed it. Thanks for the suggestions.
