I have a question that doesn't appear to have been addressed in these forums.  I'm still on ver. 2.4 and my list of "packages have been kept back" just keeps growing longer.

Before I upgrade to 2.6, should I run "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" (as shown below) and then reply with "Y" (when prompted as to whether I want to continue) in order to upgrade the packages that have been kept back?  Or should I perform the upgrade to 2.6 first and see which, if any packages are still "kept back" afterwards? Thanks.

Code:
:~$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree      Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done The following NEW packages will be installed:   fonts-stix libsctp1 linux-headers-3.13.0-66 linux-headers-3.13.0-66-generic   linux-image-3.13.0-66-generic linux-image-extra-3.13.0-66-generic   lksctp-tools The following packages will be upgraded:   icedtea-7-jre-jamvm libreoffice-base libreoffice-base-core   libreoffice-base-drivers libreoffice-calc libreoffice-common   libreoffice-core libreoffice-draw libreoffice-gnome libreoffice-gtk   libreoffice-gtk3 libreoffice-impress libreoffice-math libreoffice-officebean   libreoffice-writer linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic   openjdk-7-jre openjdk-7-jre-headless python3-uno 21 upgraded, 7 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 181 MB of archives. After this operation, 273 MB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

To jbecker,

As seen on page one of this thread, all you have to do is the following:

Quote:Upgrading:

For those on Linux Lite 2.4 do the following:

1) Menu, Favorites, Install Updates.
2) Menu, Settings, Lite Upgrade.
3) Follow the onscreen instructions, reboot when finished.

I do dist-upgrade on LL all the time, because Lite Updater won't let me update kernel and some packages from PPAs (like graphics drivers)... No problems so far.

Just keep in mind folks that we recommend against dist-upgrade, and this is stated in the Help Manual. Because we have clearly stated this, we will not give Support if you bork your system, especially when you have gone against what we recommend. This wastes Support time. OFC if someone wants to give you support even after running this command, it's a free world Smile We view running dist-upgrade as playing russian-roulette in LL.

Just upgraded from Linux Lite 2.4 to 2.6 with no problem at all. Took about 10 minutes. Great job on a great system. I have been a user of Linux Lite for about a year now. Of all the distros I have tried, I really like LL! Thanks again for such an awesome system.  Stephen  Smile Smile Smile
