Install additional software (new user)

I cannot install Google Chrome or Wine at all, when i try it says it just failed to install. Can someone please help me. Also how do you change the login and loading picture. another question I have is; do you need an anti-virus for Linux Lite, and if you do which one?  ;D

Did you do Install Updates after you installed Linux Lite?

Yes, the was the first thing I did after I installed Linux Lite. Then I customized the appearance as much as I could. However some days later I wanted to install Chrome, so I went to the Install Additional Software, and selected Chrome. Then it said it failed to install, I got the same message trying to install Wine. However I was able to install Java without a problem. I hope I am not confusing you and thanks for the help.

Lets start with Chrome, open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable

copy any errors to your next post.

I installed Linux Lite 2.0 yesterday as I am new to the Linux World. Now I can't install any additional software.  I was trying to install the games package #6 and Google Chrome Browser but it seems any software I try to install will not install...I just get an error message that it won't install.

You need to do Install Updates first after a new install.

Open a terminal and post back with output from this command please:

I am also a new user as of 2 hours ago and I also cannot get either Chrome or Chromium to install from the installer or by downloading and doing the installation from the web.
I have done a complete update.
I don't do terminal stuff..
Terminal stuff doesn't meet the definition of "simple".
Especially since it seems impossible to copy and paste from this forum into the terminal.
One simple keystroke wrong, a missed space or anything else and the command fails.
