[SOLVED] bashrc changed
#1

Hi there. I'm a relatively new user and I'm really enjoying the new goodies (updated kernels, gtk apps, xfce version).

However, I wanted to point out a default behavior that (unless I did something wrong myself) feels a bit reckless: the update appears to have overridden my user's .bashrc. My .bashrc is a symlink to a git repo (a common practice), so this even propagated through my config repo.

In my opinion, system upgrades should only change system files (and leave behind backup copies if they could have been manually modified).

In the meantime, restore your bashrc content from the Timeshift backup, providing you followed the announcement advice.

Thanks for the quick fix! And no worries, the point of using version control for config is I can easily roll back. It just took me by surprise.

Fixed in what way? That it creates a backup of the user's .bashrc? Or that customised .bashrc's won't get replaced?

I just run an upgrade from a 7.8 test system to 8.0.
Indeed very impressive! Thanks for this great feature, Jerry & team!

Beside the above mentioned .bashrc replacement I obviously also run into the changes Steve described (here):

Appearance - Style
Appearance - Icons
Window Manager - Theme

The icon of the menu also changed. And the xfce4-terminal package got deleted, some of my scripts rely on.

It's not a comprehensive list, these are all very first glance observations. There might be more unexpected/(subjectively) undesired changes under the hood.

Could you please detail what you saw after the reboot in regards to these.

Yes, XFCE Terminal is gone, was in the original announcement so shouldn't come as a big shock. Easy enough to change your scripts to point to Lite Terminal.
