After installing LL76 on the above Macbook the Wifi worked fine without the third party driver.
I then did a complete Update of some 200 modules which wiped out any wifi.
I have tried the third party driver offered in Driver update (Broadcom STA wireless) but this didn't help.
Is this a known issue and if so, could you please list the steps (in detail) I need to take to rectify the issue.

I am a newbie to the world of Linux. I installed Linux Lite 7.6 on my old laptop Dell Latitude D830. During the installation, the wifi driver was recognized and installed, as well as my network. However, the wifi network won't connect. I checked the password several times and after 3 tried, it disconnected. Using inxi -N from the tutorial, I received the information below:
Device-1: Broadcom and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM57755M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
driver: tg3
Device-2: Broadcom and subsidiaries BCM4311 802.11a/b/g
driver: b43-pci-bridge
Device-3: Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth type: USB driver: btusb

The wifi was working in windows 7 before I wiped it to install Linux Lite 7.6. Any help to get the wifi working will greatly be appreciated it.
"kex_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset"
"Connection reset by [IPADDR] port 22"
Same happens when trying to do "ssh localhost" in a terminal window on the local computer.
It says "kex_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer"
also trying "ssh [USER]@[LOCAL_LAN_IP], which gives an error:
"ssh: connect to host [LOCAL_LAN_IP] port 22: Connection refused"

if it makes any difference:
- ping works fine
- the installation is fresh, drive reformatted
- install all updates first
- tried to install/reinstall openssh-server, still the same
- just tried the same on Lubuntu - works fine

Greetings all.
I have been gradually repurposing an ancient relic with a fresh offline install of Linux Lite. I have realized that I am one device short to give it wifi capability. Acer Aspire one notebook, no usb 3.0, and internal network card has long since been dead.

This is kind of an easy forum cause I'm only looking for suggestions (steps may vary). One thing I know out of the box is that rigging a usb wifi adapter to work on linux is a nightmare. I have yet to decide on a device from the store, and wonder which kind if adapter stick plays nice with linux. If anything, I would like for this to be more of a planner to make this less of a headache before beginning. I attempted to get a wifi stick to work once in the past on a different system and despite many terminal instructions was never able to, so I can sense what I'm in for.

I know the steps may change depending on which device (adapter) is used, but that's why I wanted to ask here. Anyone recommend something universal on what adapter i should order?
If it's all the same in the end, is there any specific forum or instruction page that perfectly illustrates step-by-step how to properly install any wifi adapter? {Please assume that usb 3.0 is not possible and that the wifi adapter in question does not have linux-specific installation media/disk}.

Note: it is possible to hook directly into Ethernet for any updates, just not permanently. I have not yet connected this 'fresh' install of Linux Lite to the internet. If I need to update anything before installing the stick using Ethernet, please let me know.

Other relevant Info:

ACER modle: Aspire One D257 - 13404
Lite version: 3.8 (32 bit)

> The internal network card adapter inside the unit is 100% fried, so instructions on internal network cards should not be included as valid solutions on this post.

I tried LXLE (looking for a LTS based distro) and there was not an easy/easily found way to choose my USB wifi adapter which has better range and which I also want to test for use with a laptop that I hope to use a light distro for. I have a Qualcomm Atheros in my Dell desktop (168c:0032) and a Realtek based USB adapter, 8812BU (0BDA:B812) - when I type in inxi-N it showed the Qualcomm as up and Realtek as down, but I couldn't find CLI instructions on how to enable the Realtek USB adapter even if it recognizes it's there and has a corresponding driver. My understanding is it's now supported through the kernel right? I had another USB adapter which was recognized but I think it was in down status as well and it just defaults to the Qualcomm.

If I use Linux Lite, which I am guessing may be better supported anyway is there built-in tools that can make this easy? Or can I install a GUI network manager of some kind to make the Realtek adapter work?

I'm a noob and just started my old Linux computer for the second time today. My sister was in the hospital for over 4 months and I had to stop what I was doing after she went in. She has also been in the nursing home for about 1 month now. I don't remember what all I tried to do with it. I'd like to get it connected to the internet. I have a cable from my motherboard to my modem I guess is what you call it and I'm not able to figure out how to get connected to the internet. The modem is an Motorola MT7711 if that helps.
I don't know what version of Linux Lite I'm using though because I forgot to write it down. If it's going to be very difficult, maybe I'll take the desktop somewhere and have someone look at it.
I have Linux Lite installed (altho when I go to System Information, it says the operating system is Ubuntu 20.04.6 :023: ). I've noticed recently that the small networking icon down at the bottom right of the tray bar, shows an orange underline below it. I am connected to my network with a WiFi connection and browsing the internet seems normal. Clicking the icon and selecting System information shows the correct network information with no errors.

I tried disabling wifi and networking, and re-enabling, and also rebooting the system, but the orange line continues to show under the networking tray icon. All the latest updates are installed. What does the orange underline signify?

This happened in the past with the previous release and successively with the last one . Turning off the pc in "suspend" and then waking up makes networking working again. I tried to assign fixed IP: in "connection information" IPv4 appears configured but the browser didn't retrieve web pages from the internet. I was forced to reinstall the last release 6.6 and initially it worked fine but since some days the problem proposed again.
Booting from the live cd, all works properly almost all the time. Maybe it is an hardware fault but i dont know how to detect it (perhaps whith a diagnostic tool).

Theres some outgoin connection in a clean install of linux lite, i installed wireshark to analyze the traffic, and theres some ips that automatically and frequently linux lite connects(talking about every 20 seconds or so), as a University server, and a cannonical server(phoning home to ubuntu?, i though you guys remove all the snap mainly to remove any tellemetry data, but theres some connections still in it), and a national server.

Why is that? and how can i remove those connections?, debian, and arch(when removin the default arch website connection), doesnt have any "telemetry" or connections in its clean default installation.

Also i tried another install and this time remove the google chrome default app, and even then still left same ip connections...

Some of those ips:

- 186.118.171.88 cronos.unad.edu.co apparently this a time clock synchronization project for linux servers, i guess is for online time synchronizity for the apps?
- 91.189.91.157 (canonical in London servers)

Really Appreciate any answer, and if theres some way i can make it very vanilla without any outgoing connections as debian or arch are, thanks.
Edited: Read about the ntp time indepent setting project, cool stuff, thats one check out of the box, every OS has to make some calls to syncrnoze the internal clock with real time to function its internet properly. there still the canonical connection one, any answer appreciate it, cheers.
