yay finally I found the command I was looking for .... and it had the good news in it
(64BIT CABAPLE)
BUT THEN I START THINKING will I face no lag (exactly like the 32bit) when running 64bit with my only 1gig ram
well for me using 64bit LL means everything
- using chrome
- steam client
- many amazing windows apps for 64bit only systems (using wine)
- and the famous sentence (64bit systems can handle both but 32bit systems can only run 32bit )
-using 32bit os on your 64bit processor is like having a beast encaged...
so I ask again can I use 64bit???

I installed Steam from the Lite Software tool - it wouldn't launch . I read several threads etc. - uninstalled from Lite Software tools and installed only the launcher in synaptic - still won't launch . Here is my output from the terminal

I had a great deal of trouble previously when I installed nvidia drivers in a previous distro ; totally frapped my whole system . Could someone offer some advice on which , if any of these drivers I should install ; or , is there some other explanation why I'm having trouble installing steam ? If I install 1 of these others in place of the x.org Nouveau driver will steam then find it's way to them ? As far as I can see all the noveau dependencies are met

Installed Skype from Lite Software. It starts up fine and logs me in automatically but will not execute any commands not show any of my contacts. Have uninstalled and reinstalled also from the skype site. Any thoughts on getting it to work.

I am trying to migrate my Mum's old computer from Windows XP over to Linux but am finding it impossible due to the last antivirus programme discontinuing supporting XP.
After spending a great deal of time researching the issues I am going to have to abandon the idea!
I download of Linux Lite 3.6 image file burnt it using ImgBurn, verified it using the same programme and checked the performed an md5sum check which showed the same long number string.
When booting from the Linux Live 3.6 DVD and choosing Start Live a login screen appears in the centre of a turquoise coloured screen. At the top of the login window it says: Other...
For the Usernames I have tried: linux, ubuntu, admin all the the Password left blank.
I have tried all of the above as a Username and Password.
None of them will allow me to progress past the Login window.
Sometimes after pressing Enter the Login window disappears and is replaced by a mouse symbol and then returns to the Login window. Other times after the mouse symbol it goes blank and then returns to the Login window.
Why does it need to be logged in where as other Linux versions do not?
Why is there not a direct install to Hard Drive option as with other Linux versions?
The idea was to install a small version of Linux which uses as little resources as possible as the computer is old and slow. After tyring Lubuntu yesterday and finding no support for the graphics I have no option but to abandon my idea of any Linux and reluctantly install Windows 7 :-(
Which ever 'genius' decided to include the necessity to have to Login in when starting Linux Lite 3.6 Live has not done the version any favours and has done Linux a disservice.
Is is no wonder that Microsoft Windows became so successful as it is so simple to just install it and go without unnecessary time wasting pointless hassle!!
I am frustrated very and disappointed.

Hey guys,
I am using linux lite 2.8 on my Asus K53U laptop, which has Radeon HD 6320 graphics. I followed the instruction in Help Manual about installing the ATI graphic drivers. However, I somehow revert the driver to the default one. Now, I want to get ATI drivers back but I cannot. The selection of "Using Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators from fglrx" is in grey color and is not selectable.
And when I click the ATI icon from "menu", a error window popped up saying "Failed to execute command 'amdcccle'".
Does anyone can help me to get the ATI drivers back?

Okay guys and gals I am still new here, so hopefully I'm not repeating a conversation that's already posted.
I'm loving LL and Xfce. I've been busy tweaking and customizing. I'm curious what your favorite theme and icon combo is.
So far Greybird is my favorite stock theme(style?).
However I wasn't 100% on any of the stock icons. Faenza, Humanity and Gnome were all good, but just didn't quite do it. After testing A LOT of icon packages I didn't find any that were perfect, but I finally settled on Matrilineare. It's similar to Faenza but I prefer the design and color scheme. Here's a list of the other icon packages that I also like:
Box (Lubuntu theme)
Darkenza
FFW
Square-Beam
Vamox
Your turn. What's your favorite them/icon combo?
