Virtualbox not working on kernel 4.13
Posted by: ayanb - 10-18-2017, 11:20 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I have install kernel 4.13 through lite tweaks. But now my virtualbox giving error each time I am  trying to open a virtual machine. Giving the below error.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please install virtualbox-dkms package and load the kernel module by executing

'modprobe vboxdrv'

as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

where: suplibOsInit what: 3 VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED (-1908) - The support driver is not installed. On linux, open returned ENOENT.

Connected to WIFI but browser won't load any pages.
Posted by: Zapmaster - 10-17-2017, 05:04 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (18)

Hi guys. So I have a wifi USB adapter on a desktop running Linux Lite 3.6. It's drivers are installed correctly and I can find and log into our WiFi network. But once I am in, the Internet will only work for about 2 seconds (browser will load a website for about 2 seconds and then it will stop and say no Internet). But the wifi signal shows as being strong and the connection stays connected the whole time. Despite that Internet appears to only work immediately after I disconnect and reconnect (for about 2 seconds after reconecting).

The USB adapter is Linksys N300 (which uses Broadcom bcm 43235). I installed it's Windows XP drivers via ndiswrapper, it's the same driver I used on Linux MX before and it worked fine for it. So I don't think it's a driver issue, but could be wrong of course. This my first time really trying Linux seriously. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I like Lite way more then MX and don't really want to go back to it.

Inserting links as words/phrases/sentences in place of the https://www.link
Posted by: Moltke - 10-17-2017, 03:56 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! Smile I searched the forum and found this post very informative and instructional by the way, however, I know that inserting links can be funnier, so I decided to make this tutorial. The goal is learning how to insert any link as a word/phrase/sentence of your choice in place of the https:// web address, so  instead of users/readers seeing this https://mityer.khdlhfjijfrupr.tk/ they see this Linux Lite Rocks! how cool is that, eh?.
In the first line you noticed that the word "post" points to gold_finger's tutorial link on the forum, for that I did the following:
First,  I clicked on toggle view button [Image: toogle.png]

Then I selected that word [Image: post.png]

Next, I clicked on insert Hyperlink button [Image: link.png]

Finally, I copied and pasted the link into the new window [Image: copy_paste.png]  that pops up, hit OK and that was it, that easy.

Maybe some/most of you know this but since I didn't find anything in the forum about it, I thought of having some fun creating this tuto which I hope you'd found useful  Smile . I think this should work with images too but for some reason I couldn't do it, when previewing I didn't see any image Sad  Seizing the moment I ask, How can I do that? Thanks!
EDIT: The problem was the service I was using to share the image, Imgur only allows to share the link to its site where the image's been uploaded to view. So I tried a different one  This site offers the possibility to copy a bbcode link so you can insert your image directly into your post Smile

  WPA2 Wi-Fi Vulnerability KRACK
Posted by: Vera - 10-16-2017, 09:27 PM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (5)

Hi, today a post came out on the Wordfence blog describing a couple of vulnerabilities (see https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2017/10/krack-and-roca/ ).  One of these is in the Wi-Fi WPA-2 protocol. The other is to do with public key authentication. These are not specific solely to Linux, but they affect a huge range of devices.

My question is, are we vulnerable and if so, is there any software that we should be installing on our Linux Lite machines to help protect/mitigate against these vulnerabilities? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.
