  LL3.4 Desktop widget (System Info)
Posted by: justme2 - 05-12-2017, 09:56 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - No Replies

The widget is very useful but I don't like it on the desktop all the time. I have worked out how to close it and reopen from terminal but wondered if it would easy to add a minimise button so the widget could be displayed or hidden from the taskbar? Or to open minimised to a button in the notification area?

Should Social Media applications be included in Lite Software?
Posted by: valtam - 05-12-2017, 07:53 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (61)

With the prevalence of Social Media in the world, should we for convenience, include Social Media applications in Lite Software?

I know some of you are anti-social media, and that will influence your opinion. We are trying to push the message of free software. I'm not a big fan myself, but I'm always able to see the bigger picture and put aside personal opinion.

Weather Gadget - No Data Error on multiple PC's running LL 2.8

Was working Okay yesterday, but just noticed in the command line that instead of scrolling weather information, the Sun Icon has an "?" on it and the message No Data is written next to it.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks,
Dan

Chrome asks for password/keyring every time
Posted by: CaperAsh - 05-11-2017, 11:17 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (14)

Since installing LL on this laptop, every time I open up Chrome after starting up, have to enter password. And what is a 'keyring' anyway?

Am not sure if this is related, but most times I close lid to suspend, either I can't wake it up again and have to use power button to turn off and then on again after which a reboot, or it does respond to a key to wake up, but then goes throug the reboot routine. And the booting up is by far the slowest have ever encountered with Linux. LL used to always boot very fast, but not this time.

(Am using Lenovo T530)

  Uninstalling and reinstalling Chromium
Posted by: bonnevie - 05-10-2017, 03:02 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

In 3.4, I had to uninstall & reinstall Chromium using Lite Software and everything went fine. I was a little surprised to open my "new" reinstalled Chromium and all my bookmarks, history, cookies and saved passwords were there.  I was expecting a clean reinstall and I wonder how I could achieve this using Lite Software?  What I did was Uninstall => Update => Install.

Treating Moderate-to-Severe Technophobia With Linux Lite!
Posted by: Artim - 05-10-2017, 01:30 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (6)

Hi!

I'm a little bit technophobic when it comes to computers.  Kinda like, push the wrong button and BOOM! Permanent, irreversible, catastrophic disaster.

Even though I dare to tinker a little bit with Linux distros when I'm feeling brave, at least on my main home desktop computer that I use for most of my college coursework, I'm using and really loving my Linux Lite!  I need simplicity more than anything, and stability is just about equally important for me.  Linux Lite fits the bill!  I wrote about treating technophobia with Linux Lite here in my "technophobe's blog."

I'm not on Facebook or Google where you're kinda like a "commodity" for sale to advertisers, but I've been playing around on Diaspora for a few months... It gets off to a very slow start but if you stick with it it kinda develops into a wonderful place to learn and grow.

One of the coolest things about Linux - and Linux Lite in particular - is how infinitely customizable it is, not just cosmetically, but system-wide.  I've got Midori on in place of Firefox, Evolution in place of Thunderbird, and I added a supercool point-and-click USB stick formatter (called Mintstick) that I heard about from a Linux Mint user.  It's standard in Mint and LXLE, and I dare say, it ought to be in LL too (easier and quicker than using GParted just to format a USB thumb drive, which I do a lot between school stuff and external backups.

Looking forward to learning and maybe even contributing a little here and there.
