  Vivaldi For Low Powered Machines
Posted by: Delta555 - 02-04-2017, 09:24 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

Just did a semi-exhaustive web browser testing on my net book and came to the conclusion that Vivaldi is the fastest, lightest browser I could get to work with basic web browsing and watching some YouTube.

Tried out Firefox, QupZilla, Chromium, Midori, Chrome, Tor for the hell of it and finally Vivaldi.

It isn't as full featured obviously but gives you the ability to really de-clutter you browser for those with little ram.

They also offer a E-mail Acct as well.

Just thought someone new to Linux who is running on a slow machine could benefit from trying Vivaldi right off the bat instead of drudging around for a few days before finding a solution.

Where can the command-line for LL's Lite Tweak's tasks be found?
Posted by: m654321 - 02-03-2017, 02:55 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

The Lite Tweaks GUI, and the list of tasks listed within it, is a really neat feature of LL.  It's especially useful for everlasting newbies
such as myself (who don't know much command-line) in ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of an LL install.

Is the Lite Tweaks GUI unique to LL? - I can't say I've noticed it in the linux distros I've flirted with to date.

However, I'd now like to learn a bit about the command-line behind at least some of the key tasks listed in Lite Tweaks.
Could someone point me in the direction where I would find the command-line for the following tasks:

- old kernel removal
- free up RAM memory
- firefox cache clean
- package cache clean
- residual configuration files clean
- thumbnail cache clean
- whisker menu clean

Many thanks
Mike

  Installing LL 3.2
Posted by: bitsnpcs - 02-02-2017, 03:39 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (24)

Hello,
I am trying to install LL3.2 on a computer, the live dvd spins up and I see the menu, as it moves on from this, the screen goes black and the monitor power light turns off, as if the monitor cable has been removed.
I know the cable works as its usually used on another computer, and I know the cable connection and graphics work as I edited the bios and it is graphical interface, with various konky type aspects running.
I hear the Linux Lite start up music just cannot see on the screen, so cannot progress any further at this stage.
The bios is Asus version 2.17.1246, the motherboard is Asus H110M-R.  The graphics are Intel integrated 510HD.

The bios settings I altered were -
1/ change to boot from dvd.
2/ chose other OS, instead of windows uefi default. (the computer does not have windows installed, its for Linux)

  Lost Default Archive Manager
Posted by: Daveyboy - 02-01-2017, 06:34 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (18)

When I select multipe files and select "Create Archive" I now get a message saying

Failed to create archive
no suitable archive manager found

This had worked perfectly well approx 3 weeks ago

Upon further investigation the Archive Manager is no longer showing up in any menu via the main menu.

I installed File Roller via the the install/remove software menu and whilst I now have a File Manager of sorts I still get the same "Failed to create archive" message when using the right click method described earlier. As this was always my prefered method of creating zip files can anyone advise me how to restore the default linux lite archive manager settings please
