  Christmas forum theme
Posted by: thoughtinstinct - 12-30-2016, 05:55 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

The forum had a very nice theme during christmas and i thought to ask if it can be made permanent. Not the christmas decorations but the overall theme looked great to my eyes.

  New Forum Mod @mention
Posted by: valtam - 12-30-2016, 01:28 AM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

New Forum Mod @mention, now you can directly tag a user with the @username tag.
That user will get a notification to a thread they have been referenced in, but not one they have necessarily subscribed to.

More here - http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/in...p?mod=3860

If you don't want this enabled, disable it in your Profile settings.

Initial tests are inconclusive, so we'll keep an eye on this one.

  Remmina sftp and ssh
Posted by: trinidad - 12-28-2016, 09:08 PM - Forum: Network - No Replies

Just a happy note to those interested in easier ssh and sftp. Remmina has resolved its ssh versions problems, and encryption version problems, and its Debian stable to Ubuntu quirks, and it is now, by far and away, the simplest and best GUI way to use sftp and secure shell. No more extra file managers. No more Thunar bookmark quirks. No more copy and paste dilemmas. Any file can be uploaded or downloaded between computers. Both machines, or however many machines, must have openssh, client, server and sftp installed. You only need Remmina on one of them. You can download a file to one, disconnect from it, reconnect to another, and upload the same file, or a modified file to another. I think we finally have a user friendly GUI sftp thingamabob for Windows converts without any silly FM quirks. It didn't work right Debian to Ubuntu until recently but I've been using it for about two weeks now, and I'll never go back to any other GUI way of sftp. Here's a couple screenshots of my Deb desktop with Linux Lite opened up sftp, and Linux Lite in secure shell. Put a smile on my face I'll tell you. It works with Windows 10 openssh too. I have recently used this to remotely edit grub files myself.

  ClamAv error updating
Posted by: thoughtinstinct - 12-28-2016, 04:51 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

Hi

I tried installing ClamAV using at first #sudo apt-get install clamav clamav-daemon clamtk  and everything went alright. I then did #sudo freschclam and i got the following "error"

Code:
ERROR: /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log is locked by another process
ERROR: Problem with internal logger (UpdateLogFile = /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log).

Thinking it might be a problem with the installation process i did #sudo apt-get purge clamav clamav-daemon clamtk and then #sudo apt-get install clamav clamav-daemon -y, copy/pasting from here http://www.ehowstuff.com/install-clamav-ubuntu-server/ but i'm still getting same "error". I did some googling but i'm not any wiser. Please help !

Any help would be fine.

  Help - Install Using Terminal
Posted by: jetbobsled - 12-27-2016, 07:21 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (7)

Hi there - I love Linux Lite... and want to replace my current linux distro with Linux Lite.

I copied the ISO to a USB Drive, but my laptop will no longer boot from a USB (even when I make USB priority in BIOS, it won't boot...  it boots in my other laptop, just not the one I want to install on, grrr)

All the files are available on the USB and are viewable in my current linux distro.

Is there a way to install Linux Lite from the Terminal?

If so, what is the code?

Thank you for your time and help!!!

  imageviewer has no print function
Posted by: esoteric - 12-27-2016, 06:07 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Dear All,

My husband is still using linuxlite 2.2. It is freshly updated. He is taking screenshots and wishes to print them from imageviewer. We cannot find anyway to print
with imageviewer. There seems to be no option for printing. The imageviewer seems to be called ristretto 0.6.3.My linuxmint 17.3 cinnamon on my desktop  has imageviewer and prints from it just fine. Many more options are visible.

I, also have linuxlite 2.2 on my laptop with same issue.  I imagine installing the latest linuxlite would be the best, however,
no time for that for awhile. I would gladly use a different imageviewer that works, if I knew which one would print. We tried to use gimp but it did not print at all.

By the way, we both enjoy linuxlite. Very nice operating system. Thanks for your great efforts.

Suggestions welcome!

Thank you,

esoteric

installing 3.2 and keep home folder intact
Posted by: nublix - 12-27-2016, 09:13 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (9)

After just about a yr of having LL2.6, I'm prepping this old machine to install 3.2 32bit but need to keep my home partition.

My partitions are:

Am I correct that  the following is what I need to do? -saw a vid on someone's post on this forum.

Something Else
select the Root partition  and use as ext 4 journalling . . .
select format, Mount as Root
Leave Swap as is
Home: use as ext 4 journalling . . .; do not format; mount point is /home; OK, Install Now; Continue

However, before I get there, in following the instructions in the online help manual to put the iso on the usb, don't I need to change this

Code:
sudo dd if=linux-lite-2.8-32bit.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M
to?
Code:
sudo dd if=linux-lite-3.2-32bit.iso of=/dev/sdb1 bs=4M

my usb show up under sdb1
