All of a sudden Kodi stopped opening up.When I try to open in the terminal it gives an "ERROR can not create a GUI".
I have never had this problem before. I am running LL 2.8 and I don't have any other problems as far video and graphics drivers. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I check and install updates on a daily basis.
Any suggestions?

| Qupzilla : blank bookmark toolbar icons & no full-screen view for YouTube videos |

I've been looking at alternative open-source browsers to Firefox, as I've found opening Firefox browser is encumbered by extensions which make it pretty laggy on all our PCs, both old & new (2007-2014, see sig). I've found the lightweight Qupzilla to run snappily on all setups, using version 1.8.9 ~ dfsg1-3 from the LL3.2 repository. However, two issues have come up, for which I haven't found any online solution for Qupzilla - these are:
(1) websites bookmarked in the bookmarks toolbar don't have an individualised icon - each bookmark has the same blank grey rectangular icon
(2) YouTube videos won't go to full-screen view when the full-screen view icon (in the bottom left of the video frame) is clicked
I should add that I don't have either Adobe Flashplayer or Pepperflash installed, though this doesn't appear to affect the smooth running of either Firefox or Slimjet on all PC setups. Also, the above two issues don't appear when Qupzilla is run on Windows 7.
Many thanks for any solutions to the the above...
Cheers
Mike

Hello to everyone from hippocrat - just joined - already have a problem!
I burned a copy of Linux Lite 3.2 and ran it as a live dvd - cannot get wifi to work - am running a Zyxel4965ton router- when I try to type in my alpha ten-letter wireless key I get the first two letters [r and p] but when I punch in the third letter [g] I get the number 6- this continues for the remainder of the key and I get no wifi. I'm hoping to run linux lite on this my old Gateway machine which currently runs Zorin os9 with no problems.
I also run linux lite 3.0 from a usb stick on my other machine a Toshiba Tecra r840 with no probs - wifi comes up automatically. Any ideas? would welcome some feedback - thanx in anticipation hippocrat

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum. I need help restoring my linux-lite desktop. I used the following command to fix a problem (which I have no idea what it was).
Code: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
. Now the system boots and runs, but it has a different splash screen and an Ubuntu login etc...
I am using LL 2.8. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

i have 2 questions/problems....
1) i had to change motherboards in a HP 2000-219DX, was a Winders 7 machine, now LL3.0. part way into the boot-up i get a message telling me:
Product information not valid.
The following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalid.
System Board (00A) - Product Name
System Board (00A) - Product Serial Number
System Board (00A) - Product Number
ENTER - Continue Startup
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup
went there and found nothing related to my issue. got into the BIOS setup and found those items missing, but no way to enter the needed info. they appear in the in the systeminfo report when i ran it. how do i fix that??
2) also in the systeminfo report i found that the BIOS version is not the most current. i found the newer version at HP support but it appears to be a Winders .exe. can i install it running LL 3.0? i tried re-installing Winders and LL but without success.
i hope someone can help me with these. i consider myself a Linux rookie. thanks in advance.

| Installed LinuxLite 3.0 - couple of newbie questions |

One of my brothers was running Windows XP on an old Dual 1800 Athlon system. He wanted to switch to a newer version of Windows (because of Microsoft dropping support) but his system was too old and ran to slow when he tried it. I've never tried Linux myself but had read that it was a good candidate for his situation. After trying different live cds, I got the Linux Lite 3.0 to install and checking it, it seems to run well.
Knowing nothing about Linux, I have a couple newbie questions. My brother has low vision. The scrollbar (like the one in Firefox) appears too narrow for him. Knowing that I used the stock settings, could someone please walk me through how to increase the scrollbar width?
Also, there is an icon for a floppy disk drive and a 2nd hard drive that shows up on the desktop. Is it possible to remove the floppy icon while leaving the one for the hard drive?

I've found a bug that after upgrade, will show /etc/llver as 'Linux Lite 3.0' instead of 'Linux Lite 3.2' This in turn affects Lite Tweaks, Bootup Fix.
Will work on a fix and report back when complete.

It cannot be this hard...
I am embarrassed to admit how many hours I have spent trying to find out for myself, without asking anyone, one basic, basic, basic question. I have scoured Google and learned a lot. Just not the answer.
This is what I want to do-using File Manager. Not Linux commands-File Manager.
(After alot of of research,I appreciate how with LinuxLite I don't have to gksudo nautilus/nemo etc....)
(For reference I am running LL on Windows 8.1 under VirtualBox with a Shared Folder)...
This very basic thing is what I want to do...
I want to open File Manager, navigate to my Shared Folder...right here I get errors and can't even look at the shared folder...
I got around that by Open As Admin. LL opens another File Manager (this one with root privileges).
OK! Now I can look at the Shared Folder! I can see all the files! I am thinking I'll just drag and drop the file I want onto my desktop. Nope.Again with the error.
OK. So I "Copy" and and navigate to MY desktop
(not root/Desktop-this was another time consuming big gottcha..my DESKTOP-the screen I look at when LL is started- is NOT /root/Desktop. This is not intuitive! My DESKTOP is "/home/sweetloraine/Desktop/. Without years of MSDOS command prompts this would have been a showstopper. I would think /root/Desktop is THE desktop.)
I click on the DESKTOP ("/home/sweetloraine/Desktop") right-click and try to paste. Nope.
The file is COPYed. SO I know I can paste it somewhere!! I navigate, using FileManager, to "/home/sweetloraine/Desktop" (which is my DESKTOP) and paste. Success! The file is copied to my DESKTOP. I can see it!
ALMOST THERE!!!
I close every terminal, every File Manager, every window; it is just me and the DESKTOP-the screen with all the icons on it-DESKTOP. (Having root Desktop,User Desktop, and the actual visual desktop makes things hard to explain-and is a source of confusion).
I can see my file! BUT it has an "X" in the lower right hand corner of the icon. Bad news...
This is what I want-I want that icon to NOT have an "X". I want to be able to just click on the file and have it open.
I am so close I can taste it...But there has to be an easier way to do this:
Copy a file to the desktop. Click on the file I just copied and be able to open it when NOT root (if it is a video file, then play it. If it is a text file then open it.).
I feel retarded posting question because it cannot possibly be this hard...but I am at the end of my wits.
If some kind soul answers this, I swear I am going to type this into Google 10 billion times:
"How do you copy a file to the desktop in Linux?"
Hopefully it will send the question to the top of Google's results.
