Really slow boot time - 10 minutes

Hello - Thx for the top Jerry, I didn't realise I'd posted it incorrectly - Thx for the tip.
So, here goes:
Hi, I've slowly moved up from 2.6 on 2 notebooks and 2.8 on this Presario 2100 with 1gb Ram. 2.8 had what I consider a normal boot time - LL3 on the Presario takes aprox 15 minutes. It only has USB 1, which I used Kplop to boot up from - I can't get my USB2 PCAMIA slots to boot even with plop for that. I've got LL3 on a 32gb stick & 8gb stick to trial it on the notebooks and it's fine on those.
Here's my system report: (I've also carried out a full system report - showing the innards of this machine, but that's 52 pages long!
Any ideas?
Thx for your time. Iestyn

Upgrade LL3 kernel to the latest available kernel

Hi all. First of all, kudos to Jerry Benzecon and his mates : LL3 is a damn good & useful OS. I discovered LL with the 2.4 release and never switched to another distro. As many LL users, I come from the MS world (former Windows IT system engineer), but was immediately seduced by LL for home use : the ergonomic, the ease of configuration, the sames apps I used to install on my Windows at home, the interoperability with MS systems/infra, lightweight, stable, fast... Well I love it. This had to be said :-)
I am newbie in gnu or unix systems in general, and i have a couple of questions that may seem stupid to you guys, but I cannot get a very firm answer on the web and I would like your opinion:
1- Except for recent hardware support and security matters (which are very good reasons) is it worthy to try to upgrade to the latest available kernel ?
2 - If I do this is what will be the impact on the specific Linux Lite layers of the system ? I am almost sure that I would have to deal with some bugs but will it also deprecate some functionalities / user experience implemented for LL when using this new kernel ? More globally is it a good idea ?
Thx!

In June I have written to two German magazins about Linux , if they would like to write about Linux Lite. Now success! The German magazin LinuxUser includes in issue 9/2016, which is available since today, an article about Linux Lite.

Many lean distributions are competing on older hardware to the favor of the user. With a high level of convenience, Linux Lite allows specially newcomers without functional compromise to get started.

I am reading that there is a new kernel update available. Will this kernel update be included in the daily updates or do I need to do something else to update my kernel?

Hi all
Linux Lite 3.0 - Keyboard becomes non responsive after some time when using Chromium and system becomes flakey after a longer period.
Also mouse becomes non responsive for short periods.
Closing Chromium fixes problem then after a time problem recurs.
System eventually needs hard shut down.
Would you like a System Report?

Hidden files and folders problem

Hi Support,
This may or may not be a problem. When I go to my "home" folder, everything I see is proper. Hidden files and folders are hidden as they should be.
But if utilize my home folder from other programs, it displays all files and folders hidden and all.
For example: I open an image in GIMP and want to save to home folder, when I go to that folder, it displays every normal file and folder as well as all hidden files and folders. Seems to be true of any program that accesses my home folder. It never used to be that way and I have my doubts ubuntu or xubuntu has made that base change.
I'm wondering if anybody else sees this too. It all works and isn't a big deal and I can live with it but it's confusing to see all hidden system files and folders. Thanks for any input.
