When I bring my desktop out of suspend mode the cursor is not showing on the screen. I have to right click on the desktop menu to show a highlighted program and open it so the cursor can show itself. I have no idea how to fix this and it happens on Linux Lite and Linux Mint OS's. Can anyone help solve this issue.

I have an old BIOS system DELL VOSTRO 1520 with Multi-boot setup with Windows 10, Debian, Linux Mint and Linux Lite 3. LL3 is in charge of grub menu and was working fine till today.
After Anniversary Update for Windows 10, LL3 is still in charge of grub menu and it looks exactly the same, but I can't boot into LL3 although my other distros are all working fine.
When I select Linux Lite from the grub menu, I get the following message....
Code: Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
system logs. "Systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default or D to
try again to boot into default mode.
Give root password for maintenance
(or press Control-D to continue):
I tried to log in but get message 'sulogin: crypt failed: Invalid argument'
I'm not sure how to proceed from here, tried to google but couldn't find anything that helps. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
EDIT:
I found this solution to re-install grub....
https://mityer.khdlhfjijfrupr.tk/forums/insta...d-distros/
Boot computer with live Linux Lite USB # My Linux Lite is on partition sda8
* When up and running, open a terminal
Code: $ sudo mount /dev/sda8 /mnt # Mount the LL root partition on the HDD to the live environment
$ sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sda # Install grub to the MBR of sda drive
$ sudo umount /dev/sda8
reboot but error still remains

Hello everybody!
First, I'm from Berlin (Germany) and I'm not a native English speaker.
In 1983 I've bought my first computer, an Atari 800XL, and taught me a little bit of programming in BASIC. Therefore I've decided recently, when ever someone wants to little me by speaking to me from clever young "digital natives" from now on I will answer: "You mean the digital late ones?!"
Some years I've worked as bookseller, but I'm educated for many computer and software issues especially programming for web sites and all things which may be necessary to build a web site. I'm professional trained to use programs like Adobe Photoshop and many other multimedia programs.
In 2000 I was trained one year as an "Internet Programmer" this included 6 weeks 8 hours per day education in SUSE Linux. Since that time I've visited several other introduction courses about Linux and in 2013 I've gained a certification as "Professional Web Admin Grade I" by "Webmasters Europe", which focuses on administrating web servers with Debian Linux. Because I believe, that it's important to be good, nearly perfect, in basics, I've prepared for "LPI Essentials" exam from the "Linux Professional Institute" and I 've passed this test in 2014 (40 questions, 40 correct answers.)
I'm a contributor of Wikipedia and in German Wikipedia I'm a mentor, who sometimes helps newbies to write correct Wikipedia articles. I've introduced the German Wikipedia article on Linux Lite.
In few days I will begin a correspondence course, which prepares for LPIC I and LPIC II.
I've sometimes installed Linux on some private computers for some friends, who have had no experience with Linux, and that's the reason why I'm interested in Linux Lite, which looks smart.
Regards

| Suggestion Regarding Update Messages |

Just an idea to improve/streamline updating a little, it would be nice to see some "Do not show this message again" or "Remember My Selection" checkboxes on some of the messages during the update process so they don't have to be clicked through each and every time updates are performed or checked for.
With an option to uncheck or reset to default somewhere in settings of course 8)

How does Linux Lite handle when new updates are available?
I notice in Linux Mint or other Ubuntu Distro's you either get something come up on the screen or in the panel telling you new updates are available
I was curious how linux lite does this as I have not see any sort of notification of new updates and have had to manually check if updates exist to download and install
Is there some sort of way to tell users about new updates? as I have installed this on my sister's computer and the first thing she asked (she has never used anything but Windows before) is how do I know when to update it?

| Suggestion for Live-CD concerning HD use |

[shadow=slategray, right]My English is not perfect, although I currently try nearly every day to train it.[/shadow]
I've two suggestions: One, which concerns especially the live CD of Linux Lite, and another one, which concerns every Linux Live-CD.
Situation
Maybe very special and maybe you think, it's therefore unimportant:
I'm using a PC with 2 hard drives: - an internal drive, build-in, primary drive, commonly addressed as [tt]/dev/sda[/tt];
- an external drive, connected via usb, commonly addressed as [tt]/dev/sdb[/tt].
But [tt]sda[/tt] is defect, [tt]sdb[/tt] has no problems and is twice as large as [tt]sda[/tt].
Reaction of Linux Live CDs
Most live cds -- I've used especially Parsix, Bodhi, Mint, aptosid. -- seem to be able to handle this situation without problems. As far as I can see, their live cd checks sda, recognizes, that there is a problem, but seems to ignore it after 2 or some more tries. Not so Linux Lite. I assume, it tries untiringly to check or use sda. A few days ago, I've canceled the start of the Lite CD, because it wasn't ready after about 30 minutes. Most live cds like Mint or Parsix are ready after few minutes and they do work correct for days.
First Suggestion
The live cd of Linux Lite should ignore sda after few checks, if it has recognized, that sda does no work correct.
Second Suggestion
I'm educated in Linux, but I do not know in detail how live cds do work. I only know, that the technology was introduced by Knoppix. As far as I can see as an user of live cds they all use my sda, for swapping and other purposes.
My second suggestion is, that it might be configurable or the standard, that a live cd does no make any use of a hard drive, which obviously does no work correct, even if it is the primary drive, as long as there is another hd, which works fine. Why the hell do they not use sdb, my external drive, which is twice as large as sda and makes no problems? I have not tried to install Linux to sda, I simply use the live cd.

JohnD - surely another pseudo.
Linux CD: There is a primary, so I will use it.
Users Ghost: It doesn't work.
Linux CD: I see, but it's THE primary.
Users Ghost: But this primary DOESN'T WORK!
Linux CD: Anyway, I will try this primary thing.
Users Ghost: This primary is dead.
Linux CD: I don't care. I can feel, that it is there, and I need such a primary.
Users Ghost: IT WILL NOT WORK, NEVER EVER. L-e-t i-t g-o!
Linux CD: No, no, I will do it all night with this dirty primary.
User: I know it's a machine and a program system, but I need a beer or a tea or I could murder the system.

| lxterminal Background Jobs |
|

Hello,
I have a script, called logs, that prints log information inside an lxterminal window.
From inside lxterminal I can start it like this: logs &
It fills the screen with new data each minute, and I can also type quick commands which return information. For example ls or df.
All this works fine when I type the command, but I want a bash script to open an lxterminal and have logs start running in the background with the capability to type commands in as needed.
This bash script line will run, but not in the background: lxterminal -e 'bash -c "~/scripts/logs"'
I thought I could us "&" to get it to run in background, but it doesn't work.
This line doesn't run at all: lxterminal -e 'bash -c "~/scripts/logs"' &
I'm using this to open multiple terminal windows, and I want this one lxterminal window to start it's job in the background so commands can be entered.
Any ideas?
Thanks, koken
