  Short Introduction
Posted by: trinidad - 06-03-2016, 09:38 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (1)

I have installed linux lite 2.8 on over a dozen boxes now, many times along side windows7 and 10, on machines as old as ten years, up to brand new. I repair windows machines and networks for personal and small business users. Every personal user customer I have gotten to try linux lite has converted wholly, some within a few days. The functionality of the GUI configuration tools is excellent. My everyday main system is Debian Jessie on its own disk, and Kali linux on a second disk to which I have added a partition for linux lite 2.8. For years I have installed Kubuntu on my customers windows systems as an alternative, but I have become disenchanted with KDE of late, even though I began there around 2000 with a boxed Suse linux CD set. I have had very few issues with linux lite installations that required the terminal. It is amazing how far we have come. It is an excellent piece of software for windows converts. I use the new lxle posh on my laptop, 2.4G cpu, but in all honesty I suspect that linux lite would be easier on the cpu because of some kernel configurations. I'm looking into why. I will continue to test linux lite on every new machine I get the opportunity to load it to. I am available for questions.

  Wrong font color for youtube search bar in Firefox
Posted by: UltraCookie - 06-03-2016, 09:01 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

With the introduction of the Arc theme in LL3.0, manly the dark flavor, there comes a problem with the rather bright font color.
Some sites use the system font color even though it's not readable on white backgrounds.
This is an older problem but I figured that most LL users would search the forum first.

I found a solution here.

Download the Stylish add-on for Firefox and create a new style with the following code:

Code:
input:not(.urlbar-input):not(.textbox-input) {
        -moz-appearance: none !important;
        background-color: white;
        color: black;
    }

    #downloads-indicator-counter {
        color: white;
    }

    textarea {
        -moz-appearance: none !important;
        background-color: white;
        color: black;
    }

    select {
        -moz-appearance: none !important;
        background-color: white;
        color: black;
    }

The text in the searchbar should now be black.

I hope this helps.  Smile

  Nexus 7 unable to view contents
Posted by: rmcellig - 06-03-2016, 08:56 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

I just installed the latest LinuxLite 3. I plugged in my Nexis 7 and am able to mount it but am unable to view the contents. It says 0 items in thunar. What do I need to do to get this to work? I believe I have MTP installed.

  2.8 vs. 3.0
Posted by: Coastie - 06-03-2016, 04:32 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (7)

What are the advantages of moving to 3.0 instead of just staying with 2.8? I think 2.8 will be supported until April 2019.  :-\

  LL 3.0 - restart button, add printer problems, mouse cursor
Posted by: mdavies5 - 06-03-2016, 01:00 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (19)

Congratulations on V3.0. Everything I have tested works fine but just 3 problems you might like to know about.
1. I cannot find a 'Restart' button. The icon in the menu is just a logout option. Adding the applet to the panel offers 'logout', 'shutdown' etc but not 'restart'. The only way to restart is to logout and then restart form the menu on the login panel. Am I missing the obvious?
2. The printer problem is common to all Ubuntu distros I have tested. IT applies to Epson XP310. The installer identifies the printer and finds a driver. I accept the license, message "Installing Driver" then takes me back to the driver search screen. This behaviour repeats over and over. Has anybody else encountered this with any printer? I am surprised that the Printer installer is not included in the Settings Manager as it is with most other distros.
3. My mouse cursor disappears, particular if I logout or lock screen and then return. If I logout again and login the cursor has returned.
4. One observation, that is purely subjective, is the default theme and window settings. The Title bar merges with the panel and other windows. It is difficult to identify to click and move a window. I solve this by using the Moheli window style.

  Introducing myself
Posted by: TobinBridge - 06-02-2016, 08:03 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (1)

Hey, I'm new to the forum, just downloaded linux lite. I see it's a lot like mint. I have 2 linux laptops, put it on the one Toshiba with 8 GB RAM and the other one is an acer with 12 GB of RAM and it has chalet os on it. (2 beautiful distros eh?) my server has a modified chalet os with the openbox window manager, lxpanel, and xfdesktop so it's basically a mix of DE resources Big Grin

I'm also into old windows. I have a 1991 computer with DOS 6.00, DOS Shell, and Windows 3.1. That has 8 MB RAM yet software loads as fast as the screen refresh rate. (not lighting on screen at all, it's an LCD). I also have a computer with Windows 98 and a nice Dell with Windows XP. I have a Lenovo with windows Vista but I dont use it much. After vista was windows 7 8 and 10 and they were just plain horrible! especially windows 7!!! (and 10). 8 had a really nice layout but it still crashes all the time. That's where Linux gets it. Big Grin

  Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 [Display adapter]
Posted by: greigpj - 06-02-2016, 06:23 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (9)

I recently bought a new HP Envy 750 with built in Video Intel® HD Graphics 530 [Display adapter]
LinuxLite is running inside Virtual Box.
(I installed it on 6/1/2016)
Commend this release, reminds me of LinuxMint. I was a tinkerer but now just want my OS to work :-)

All below inside Virtual Box:
Ubuntu 16.04 Unity - Chromium and Chrome do not work (corrupted screen) Firefox works.
LinuxMint 17.3 Cinnamon - Chromium and Chrome do not work (corrupted screen) Firefox works.
LinuxLite 3 - Chromium works but when trying to play videos in Facebook, said videos are corrupt. Firefox works.

Just curious if this was a known issue as I can get buy on Firefox just fine but my preference is Chrome.

  Firefox 46.0.1 is not working well
Posted by: Ottawagrant - 06-02-2016, 05:07 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

An old problem has resurfaced. I know for a fact this is NOT a Linux Lite fault. When you close Firefox and start it again quickly, it tells you that Firefox is already running. So you have to reboot the computer. It seems with each version of Firefox they either add more junk you don't want, or it crashes, or just plain buggy. As for this problem, it happened in Windows 7 & 10 on various FF versions. If I remember, the problem started with FF in the early version 30's. So if this happens to anyone just reboot your computer & then we wait for the next version of Firefox. Maybe Jerry will consider adding 'Pale Moon' to the next release of LL. - Or maybe I will, he said to himself.

  How do I change the password on LL 3.0?
Posted by: Monkeyman - 06-01-2016, 05:05 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

How do I change my password in LL 3.0?  I tried Menu>Settings>User Interface (something like that).  The "Change Password" button doesn't do anything.
