Login without a mouse? (Am I missing something)
Posted by: Xorcist - 08-30-2015, 03:14 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

For the life of me I can't figure out how to login using just the keyboard. It seems I need a mouse to click my user name before I can start typing in my password. Am I missing something? How can I enter my password without using the mouse? If there is no way to do this, I've very much like to see support for this added to the next version of Linux Lite, as I'm much more a keyboard user than I am I mouse user.

I'm using color in my bash shell but can't get the text to drop to the next line below. Could someone tell me what's wrong here?

export PS1="\[\e[1;31m[\u@\h \W]\$ \e[m "

  Linux Lite and tabletPCs
Posted by: ChrisL - 08-29-2015, 11:03 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

I bought an HP tc4400 a while back, and there is a fair amount of info about installing Linux on this machine, but the info is pretty old (as is the machine).  It's a cool little unit though and I was thinking about putting Linux Lite on it.

Ubuntu seems to be one of the more "tablet and tablet/pc friendly Distros".  I know LL uses a pretty heavily modified kernel and was wondering if LL retains some of the tablet features of Ubuntu, such as Wacom drivers by default, etc.

Any thoughts or experience with this anyone?

Thanks!

How do I add Boilsoft Video Cutter and Joiner to Wine

Avidemux isn't bad, but Windows Boilsoft programs are better. How do I add them to Wine?

Hi,
Not sure if it my browser..??, running latest Chrome.
A few time's recently I've created a post, done a preview, and it is all messed up with "mark-up" type stuff, and most of the text missing.
Just occurred with my last post, so I have to copy the text and re-start the post.
It looks like the screenshot below...

Wine and Play On Linux - Install Confusion.!!
Posted by: Wirezfree - 08-29-2015, 07:32 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

Hi,

About 18 months ago I tried to use Wine & Play on Linux, things didn't quite work out, and I got confused.
So I kept one XP box running for a couple of programs, and eventually I virtualised that to run in VBox.

I've now decided to revisit Wine & Play on Linux, this time I looked at the online user docs, but I'm still confused..!!
If I've read/understood correctly.?
You can install Wine and use it by it'self to install Windows programs.
or
You can install Play On Linux(a frontend to Wine) which will also install Wine, is that correct.??

But then I read you need to install Wine, and then install Play on Linux, but then you will have 2 installs of Wine.
Then there was a mention that you need to install some i386 compatibility components first..??

So if I install Play On Linux from "Linux Lite Software Centre" do I have to do anything else,
or do I also need Wine, and these i386 components..??

Hope you are not as confused as I am Sad

Thanks...

  Whisker Menu (Move an Icon?)
Posted by: Xorcist - 08-29-2015, 03:23 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I haven't had much trouble installing applications or adding them to the desktop, etc. However today I installed the gnome-disk-utility, and it put a "Disks" icon under Accessories, I wanted to move it under System, and the best I could do was create a new item and disable the old one, no idea how to relocate an icon.

I also wasn't able to find where Whisker stores it's items (I'm assuming they are physical files somewhere on the disk). I know after installing gnome-disk-utility it put an entry in /usr/share/applications/ but I dont know how that relates to the Whisker menu.

Can anyone help me out a little.

  [CLOSED] Java Required Message.??
Posted by: Wirezfree - 08-27-2015, 10:45 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (9)

Running updated LL2.4
Running latest Google Chrome.

I wanted to test my Internet connection.
One test was latency so went to this site: http://www.pingtest.net/
It shows the following message, any ideas..??

Pingtest.net requires Java for packet loss testing, but it does not appear to be installed in your browser.

The assistance link just takes you to the regular ORACLE site.
I have installed Java from Lite Software Centre, still the same message.
Any ideas..??

I should add,
never experinced issues on any other site, so it's not really a biggy, I can always just use "ping" in a terminal.

Thanks
