  [SOLVED] WiFi on Compaq V2000
Posted by: Dart - 03-08-2015, 08:36 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (14)

Had been using a much older version of LinuxLite for a long time...

Today, I tried installing the new version....wifi was always a seamless configuration with my old Compaq notebook and LinuxLite. After disk install, I would see a list of all wifi connections... clicked on my ssid and entered pass - and I'm in  Wink

Things have changed a bit with the newer versions tho - can't get wifi to work no matter what I do ?  :-\

what different step am I missing here besides what I was doing before ?

[SOLVED] Forums: Show Unread Posts since Last Visit
Posted by: Kirkx - 03-08-2015, 01:01 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

I would suggest to make "Show unread posts since last visit" feature more visible. It is a great time saver when checking new posts. I have been looking for it since I started using LL last summer and only discovered it recently when it got mentioned on another thread. The current print is tiny and easy to miss:

  Dell Inspiron 1525 Auto Reboots
Posted by: Hardcoretexan - 03-08-2015, 06:11 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (35)

First off I just installed linux lite and have no experience with linux.
My original post was about not being able to connect wirelessly but after multiple updates the problem has fixed itself.

Now the problem I have is everytime I reboot I get stuck in an auto reboot cycle.
I get to the instruction page telling me to do updates first but before I can update the computer shuts down and restarts.

I have to turn it off mid boot to get to a repair screen and I use the repair features to rewrite everything and then it boots up with no problems.
I use advanced options then recovery mode and then update boot loader.
It runs through the scans and I can barely make out a fail on starting smb(but it restarts too fast to write down the rest.

but once it reboots now I am fine.

[SOLVED] Test Computer or Door Stop?
Posted by: Coastie - 03-06-2015, 06:30 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (20)

I found my first computer hiding in a closet. Not sure how old it is but it is very old. It came with DOS then Windows 3.1 was added later. It only has an inputs for a phone lines for dial up internet access which I no longer use. (Probably there is a 56K modem buried in the closet too.) No USB ports. It has a CD player but computer will only boot from either A or C drive. Could not figure out how to set it to boot from D drive in BIOS if it can. Also it does not even recognize a live Linux DVD in it when in Windows. I was thinking about using it for a distro test machine but can't figure out how to install Linux on it. It also has one of those large soft floppy disk drives.

Not sure what all this means but BIOS shows:

Base memory:          640K
Extended memory: 7168K
Other memory:        384K
Total memory:      8,192K

Drive C: 386 Mb

Is this computer usable for a distro test computer or something else or worth donating to a computer club than fixes up old computers for charity or is it just a door stop?  :-\

(Not sure this is correct place for this so won't mind at all it is moved to correct place)

update script that bypasses missing repos
Posted by: galen - 03-05-2015, 08:09 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - No Replies

the uprading script will fail if a repo is not found.
Have an option to bypass this (disable missing repos).
if not users will be unable to upgrade their system.
I have filed a bug report

Canon MG5550 MFP - Scanner not Working
Posted by: Daveyboy - 03-04-2015, 10:42 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (2)

Have just installed a Canon Pixma MG5550 Multi-Function Inkjet into LL 2.2
The printer works wonderfully using both USB Cable and Wireless but try as I might I cannot get Simple Scan to recognize and utilize the scanner that's built into this machine.

I can get the scanner to work using canon's "scangearmp" utility but I much prefer the Simple Scan software and would really appreciate any assistance you could offer in resolving this issue please

[SOLVED] Blank Screen Instead of Login Screen
Posted by: Zead - 03-04-2015, 07:24 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (21)

Worked fine before, I reinstalled Linux Lite, and now I'm sometimes getting blank screen with a mouse cursor instead of login screen, also when I lock screen. The only thing I can do is press power buton to shutdown computer.

I don't dual boot, and I disabled blank screen option, in power / lite locker settings and even in screensaver settings. Someone encountered it?
