No Sound HDA nVidia STAC9227 Analog
#1

Hi Folks,

I just installed to Linux Lite 3.0 on my old Dell PC and all seems to be working except I do not hear any sound. I know that the sound card/speakers were working before the install so I don't think it is a hardware issue.

I am not a Linux expert and so my "limited" troubleshooting hasn't resolved the issue. Can someone please give me some information on how I should proceed?

I did go into Multimedia Volume Control and I see that it shows I am not muted but it does say in the Output Devices tab that the PORT Line Out (unplugged)

Here are the System Report details ...

Consider the Configuration tab and choosing a different profile.

Consider the Sound section of the Help Manual found at Menu, Favorites, Help Manual.

This morning I found that the sound was working.

All I did was reboot, I did not change any configurations nor did I touch the hardware. I also did not install any new software

What I see now is that the Line Out states that I am plugged in. It almost seems that the Linux Lite boot sequence doesn't always "recognize" or "initialize" the sound component properly. Any comments?

I always modify my systems, with system sound notifications that I create myself. I use my own startup sound files etc. I have noticed that occasionally when I login the startup sound doesn't play immediately, or gets interrupted as it plays through. This happens when wifi doesn't make its connection immediately. As long as wifi does or doesn't connect properly there is no issue, but when it hangs the startup sound file hangs too. Not a bug, just the way the OS takes care of its timed application startups during loading. A few times the old 2.8 system I had (which was overloaded with session startup applications) took long enough to load without sound. Uncheck the box on your wifi or ethernet connection that says always connect to this connection, so the system will load without trying to connect.
