No Keyboard or Touchpat at boot up, hanging up during shutdown
Posted by: kenk4 - 01-09-2018, 06:13 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (1)

I running a Toshiba L775D-S7340 Laptop. I'm dual booting alongside Windows 10 using the windows boot loader and EasyBCD editor. The problem is that Linux Lite boots up with a dead keyboard and touch pad mouse. The wireless USB mouse still works. If I access the recovery menu and boot from there, the problem goes away. Additionally, it hangs up during shutdown and/or reboot. This problem did not occur for the first few days but I've attempted a reinstall and the problem is persisting. I am able to boot up the live USB without any problems and Windows is working just fine.

I am new to Linux and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Returning to single boot system from Ubuntu/Linux Lite dual boot system
Posted by: PCTECH - 01-09-2018, 05:13 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - No Replies

Hello

I have a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop is currently set up as a dual boot system. The first Linux system is Ubuntu 16.04 and the second system is the current version of Linux Lite. The Ubuntu "side" of the system has developed issues. I would like to remove it and leave the Linux Lite "side" as the sole system. Can I use G Parted to delete the Ubuntu partition, then expand the current LL partition? If yes, I will have rebuild the GRUB boot-loader if I understand this correctly?
The partition table is as follows
Device    Boot    Start      End  Sectors  Size Id Type
/dev/sda1  *        2048 123411318 123409271 58.9G 83 Linux
/dev/sda2      123412478 234440703 111028226  53G  5 Extended
/dev/sda5      230348800 234440703  4091904    2G 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda6      123412480 230348799 106936320  51G 83 Linux

/dev/sda1 is the Ubuntu "side"

Any input would be appreciated
Thanks
Mark

Previous items come back to life
Posted by: Manuk - 01-09-2018, 04:43 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Running Linux Lite 3.6 with dual monitors. Been working superbly.  Here is what
started occurring recently.  After I close a spreadsheet, photo, website, etc, at times
those items I just closed re-appear.  Simple enough to to removed them by changing
workspaces and then come back to my original workspace.  Somehow the memory
is not clearing I thought.  I replaced all RAM modules with known good working modules
from another computer with no luck.  Sometimes this re-opening of files occurs several
times a day.  Other times it may be okay for a week and then it starts up again.

I've called ASUS for help since I am using their Motherboard.  Help line technician said
that he did not think it is motherboard related.  He thought it might be the operating system.

Now I am thinking a virus/trojan?

Can someone give be detailed instructions on how I can do a virus/trojan scan
from a live CD?  Or other items to try.

At your convenience since the system still works great and when the problem pops
up, it is quick to kill it.  It is now slowing me down using Linux Lite.

Ten Things I Wish I’d Known About bash
Posted by: Mike - 01-07-2018, 07:12 PM - Forum: Scripting and Bash - Replies (1)

Good blog post by Ian Miell that I stumbled upon.

https://zwischenzugs.com/2018/01/06/ten-...bout-bash/

Here's one of his tips:

Quote:Have you ever done something like this?
[pre]$ grep somestring file1 > /tmp/a
$ grep somestring file2 > /tmp/b
$ diff /tmp/a /tmp/b[/pre] That works, but instead you can write:
[pre]diff <(grep somestring file1) <(grep somestring file2)[/pre] Isn’t that neater?

I came across Linux Lite with the 3.8 announcement, installed it and never went back. So, thank you for an awesome distro.

A bit about me. I am a linux geek from Amsterdam and started to use linux when Ubuntu first came into life, did some time in Arch, manjaro, fedora and other ones.

Linux Lite does not mount removable devices
Posted by: Ice - 01-05-2018, 10:15 PM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (1)

Linux Lite worked fine until I connected a card reader, then in the "Disks" section, empty disks appear that I can not access, I disconnected the card reader, restart Linux Lite and the empty disks are no longer there, then I connect a memory usb that Linux does not mount, I try to access but it shows an error, the system worked fine until I connected the card reader.
Now when passing a file to the USB memory, it starts translating to 5MB / s, and it starts to slow down, until it reaches 920Kbps / s and the computer gets slow and the system does not respond, after "finishing" the transfer, accessing the files on the USB is very slow
I'm not sure if it is a bug or the reader does not work (in Windows XP it worked fine)
Finally I do not know if I should do another clean installation of Linux Lite or have some solution (I do not have a backup of the system)

Disk won't boot to Desktop. Reason? Full disk Smile
Decrypt disk in Mac, remove HDD and mount in LL via USB, free up space, place HDD back in Macbook, boot to Desktop, drink beer.
